I've seen the last couple Dobyns-Bennett vs South-Doyle games and physically they always have a dozen players who look athletically imposing. I think they definately have a good talent pool but no cohesion. It may be a case of trying to fit the players into set offense and defense schemes instead of changing the offense or defense year to year to utilize talant to its potential. I think several local teams are great at this. Oak Ridge, Dobyns-Bennett, Sevier County, Alcoa, Knox Central do a great job at this.

I think you're right about several players with talent. I think there may be a depth problem. The new coaches need some time to get their system in place. It is regretable that the team didn't log the win against Science Hill. They should have won that game, and they would have developed some confidence that is desparately needed when a program has lost several games in a row.

I really don't know what the answer is. New coaches, new uniforms, and I think they even redid the fieldhouse. The whole program has been overhauled, and yet here we sit, on our way to another winless season. I think besides the difficult schedule, the biggest problem is confidence. These players just aren't used to winning. I'm afraid we may have to wait another year to see any payoff for the coaching changes.

    • Did this happen? Does anyone know? Ripley has their HC job posted on the bulletin board over the weekend.
    • Coalfield definitely isn't the same team they've had the past few years. They are still the favorites to make it out of their region because of their pitching. They have 1 arm that sits low to mid 80s and 2 other arms that are mid to high 70s with good off speed stuff. If you can avoid their top 3 bats in their lineup then you have a shot to beat them. Their 4-9 hitters are average at best. Wartburg's ace was able to shut them down last week in the game Wartburg won 4-2.
    • It is the longest season. Plus, 30 games a year. No Christmas break. I would say basketball is the most time consuming.
