BayouBear
The team that is already sending 4 is obviously omitted from this criteria. The other 9 regions will be competing for the right to send 4 instead of 3. I also believe it must be returning qualifiers, not total qualifiers. This was in our morning paper. I am assuming the returning part. Region 2 sends 4. All other regions (9) but one send 3. 9 x 3 = 27 + 4 = 31. The other regions are fighting for the 32nd spot. It could be medalists as Joe said. I am just saying what our local paper had today. It would only make sense if they were returning qualifiers. 825436832 I looked at it both ways using this year's returners. If they go by returning medalist, it would be Region 6 with the most (11). If they choose to use returning Qualifiers, it would also be Region 6 with 42. kevinlhs37
Since I am a transplant from another state, all I can say is that the TSSAA never ceases to amaze me. You see, this all started when they split the public and private schools. Here's my thought. Use the multiplier, combine the schools, and have the schools classified A, AA, and AAA. Each classification have there own state tourney. Eight regions, top 4 go. Rotate the respective state tourneys between the regions. Every eight years, your region will host your classes state tourney. Boy, think of the money...three state tourneys going on in three different spots in the state at the same time!!!! rushn
Looking at Region 6 enrollment numbers it appears the private schools are going to have the opportunity to demonstrate the adage "quality not quantity". Maybe TSSAA will let the Region 6 private schools form a combined team. Private CPA - 280 FRA - 285 Lipscomb - 513 Nashville Christian - 175 Public Overton 1518 Hillsboro 1152 Hillwood 1399 Franklin 1400 Independence 1244 Brentwood 1361 Centennial 1587 Ravenwood 1146 825437262 Aspen, FRA has placed in the top three(teams) in Region 6 the past four years in a row. Runner-Up last year. Runner-Up in the Region Duals too. The new Region 6 may be more like a section competition wise. We wrestled every team in the list except Independence of course, CPA, and Frankllin. Won them all except the Overton matches. We appreciate the suggestion - but we'll show up, all 14 of us. jacketman05
I'm with kevinlhs37. This is done in every other sport, why not wrestling? You never have 1 "true" champion in any other sport, except with the split of public and private. Why can't classifications be set up and have a state champion in A, AA, & AAA? I'm sure this has been suggested before, can someone enlighten me, please? RCpatriot (my son is jacketman05)
westsport
Qualifying only 3 is BS. Good wrestlers get knocked out enough by having 4 qualify. We all know that great wrestler that had gotten beat by the stud and got upset in the consolations, thus didn't make it to state.
CoachBray
I agree, wrestling is one of the fastest growing sports in the US and we keep doing dumb stuff, like eliminating weight classes and we want to only qualify 3 in a region? C'mon.
sundancer
I have to agree pull Div I & II back together and then split by A, AA & AAA. Why is wrestling different from other sports? We should be consistent!
nywrestler
This gives the Chattanooga and the Cleveland area teams another advantage. By putting the best teams in the present region 6 with the present region 5 best teams there is less opportunity for as many to qualify for state. If I were Hillwood, Overton, or Hillsboro, I'd be plenty mad.
KJF31
one thing the state needs to consider is doing a regional and sectional. from regionals, 4 would advance to sectionals and then 3 would advance to state. some states only take 2 from sectionals (with a true 2nd). one state that uses this is wisconsin. their state brackets are 16 man and one division is only 8. another bracket size could be 12, in this case region/section champs earn a 1st round bye. the bracket size would depend on the neccessary amount of regions and sections. i think this is just something that should be considered. a state that has another excellent process is illinois. they have 16 regions and 8 sections. 4 advance from the regional and 3 from the sectional advance to state. it is a 24 man bracket and sectional champ receives opening round bye. i recommend this as only more and more tennessee schools are adding wrestling. CoachGonyeaSHS
Hey Texas32, where are your whining comments? I am watching from the sidelines just laughing. This was all discussed over the last two years... Now it's a hot topic
sundancer
NY - you are being true blue to your school! However, I have to admit that I like the idea of regional & sectionals! I know we have districts, so why don't we wrestle off our districts to qualify for regionals. Oh my mistake, we still don't have the regions aligned fairly - so you know the districts are just as jacked up as the regions! Just another day dealing with TSSAA politics -
