Coaching two teams

Jim Brown coaches the middle school girls as well.

Ron Davis started coaching the Polk County boys team last year when the coach quit in the middle of the season. He was already the girls coach for many, many year. He currently has twin sons on the boys team and twin girls coming up in a year or two to the girls varsity.

 

GO RON! It's tough but you can do it!

what are the circumstances to these coaches having to do double duty? Lack of qualified coaches, lack of teaching positions of egos? Just asking?

Lack of money to pay people and lack of teaching positions would be my guess, or maybe they just don't want to go home to a nagging wife/kids.

For the most part a lot of these coaches do it for the love of the game and the love of working with and coaching young men and women.... I am sure a coach would receive 2 pay supplements to coach 2 teams so I would have to say money has nothing to do with it....

 

There have been several teams who were fairly successful with dual role coaches, the first to come to mind is Gary Carter at Macon county who coached both teams for several years and now just coaches the girls....

 

Then you have the situation like at Nashville Christian last year where the boys coach (Charlie Anderson) basically had the girls coach (whom was an exceptional coach) removed becasuse he wouldnt bow down to him everytime he walked in the gym. So he (Anderson) coached both teams last year... Gave all the attention to the boys team and showed up for the girls games, even though he slept through some of the girls games...

 

So as you can see it has its pro's and con's

Larry White and Michael Owens at RBS are both dual coaches. White does girl's high school and junior high and Owens does the same thing with the boys. But I guess it's easier for them since Red Boiling is a K-12 school and they don't have to drive from one school to another.
