HSsportznut
Rockwood defeats Harriman 7-3 to win the district 4a title again!!! Rockwood beat the veteran blue devils with a barrage from its young freshmen. Lefty Zach Breazeale gave up 2 first inning runs then shut down the devil until he tired in the 6th. Zach Duncan then came in with the bases loaded and one out and got two pop outs to end the harriman threat and then finished the devils off in a scoreless 7th to nail down a save and give the tigers the district 4a title. A third freshman, Shane Doughty broke out of a minor power slump with a bases loaded 3-run double and then added a two run homer. The famous blue devil pitching staff which only gave up 2 runs to Rockwood in the two regular season games yielded 15 runs in the three district tournament games. Hats off to coach Lane who once again lets harriman win the meaningless regular season games then knocks the wind out of their sails when the money is on the line! As coach lane said in the paper, now the preseason is over! Go tigers, good luck with cosby monday!

Whoever reported the above is incorrect. It was a tie ball game 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh and with two outs and a 3-2 count, Deane Thompson - the number 5 batter in CAKs lineup hit a walk off 2 run homer bringing in Ryan Cooper. Final score ... 5-

goosevol
Look at Rockwood's field house. Seven district titles now in eight years and they year they didn't win it the tournament was cut short due to rain. Six straight region titles and going for a seventh. Five trips to the state tournament in six years and they year they didn't make it they lost a game when their own pitcher threw a no-hitter. And think about this, when Coach Lane took over at Rockwood the Tigers didn't have a home field and they practiced in a parking lot. However, he never used that as an excuse. fastman
Rockwood has always had a field. The Gym and parking lot now take the place of the old field.

RHSBASEBALL99
fastman, when the gym was first being built, Rockwood did not have a field. They had to use Roane State's field. If I'm not mistaken, they did not have many home games due to this for a few years until the current park was finished. The football field used to be a source of practice as well as the "Concrete Diamond" aka the parking lot. We used it up until my freshman year with regularity until the indoor facility was finished and ready for us my sophomore year.
goosevol
I played on the old field, but when they turned it into a parking lot, the Tigers didn't have a place to play. They practiced in the parking lot and played at RSCC whenever possible. Lane, however, net them use that as an excuse.
fastman
How long has Coach Lane been at Rockwood? I agree he is a great coach, but all great high school coaches must have good athletes. Without good athletes, a great coach can become a mediocre coach. This was told to me by a great high school football coach many years ago. He won and won and so on. Then he ran out of tallent and had one or two losing seasons. Suddenly the fans thought he was terrible. Not only is Coach Lane a great coach but he is a good person, who really cares about his players and friends.
