AP stands for Advanced Placement and is an Honors course. These courses usually require a bunch of extra work and ton's more studying. If they are taught correctly? Now who knows what an AP class in one area of the state is as tough as an AP class in another? That being said the grade point is usually determined something like this. In a regular class an A is worth 4 points; B is 3; C is 2 and D is 1, an AP/Honors class and A is worth 5 points or 4.5 points; B is 4 C is 3 and d is 2 - So you get more "credit" if you will for taking the harder classes. Grade point averages can be deceiving because of many things - the true indicators are the ACT - if your up in the 23+ range then you are a smart person. That's why the NCAA has more than one indicator for admission. If you are wondering what is required - all guidance offices in schools should have the ncaa clearinghouse and the requirements - just call and they should be able to help you.

From everything i've heard in posts on other sites Young is going straight to the league. And about the GPA thing, my school also has the weighted grading scale, but we have 2 scales, GPA-the highest you can get is a 4.0, and then class rankings is based on Quality Point Average (QPA) which is the 5.0 scale.

to get credit for any AP classes you have to take the AP Exam which alot of kids don't do but as long as you pass the actual high school class then you get credit for a science or math towards graduating. In All Murfreesboro schools we dont have the weighted scale or anything nothing higher than 4.0 but if you take an Advanced Honors course or an AP class then you get 5 extra points added on to every 6 weeks grade and to your exams and 3 points added for all honors level cources + 3 points on exams
