Former Vol star Cedrick Wilson picked to coach Manassas

 Former Melrose and Tennessee Vol standout Cedrick Wilson will be the new head football coach at Manassas.

 

Wilson, who spent this past season as Carver's offensive coordinator, replaces Carl Coleman, who was relieved of his duties Wednesday after leading the Tigers to a spot in the 2A quarterfinal for the first time in school history.

I knew Cedrick Wilson would get a head coaching job somewhere eventually but this caught me by surprise. Manassas just got them a good one!

Obviously that's in his past. We need to sit back and see what he can do with this program. Let's also remember these schools in Memphis don't exactly have people lining up to coach them either.

Manassas fired a coach who had been to the playoffs 7 straight years with the explanation of "wanting to go in a different direction" and the next day announce wilson as the new hire.   Sounds like this deal was done before they fired the other guy.

I did not know that about him. We all have dirty laundry in our past though. Hopefully he has learned from his mistakes and is truly a good man today. He is a special talent. That offense at Carver was putting up some points.

Manassas football coach Coleman out

 

 

Manassas football coach Carl Coleman (seen here in 2012) has been relieved of duties as coach.

 

Just a couple of weeks after leading the Manassas football team to its deepest playoff run in school history, Carl Coleman has been relieved of his duties as the Tigers coach.

 

The decision came Wednesday after a meeting with school principal James Griffin.

 

Manassas finished 3-7 during the regular season but won its first two 2A playoff games to reach the state quarterfinals for the first time. They then led for the entire first half before losing to eventual state champion Trezevant, 22-20.

 

Overall, Manassas made the playoffs seven times during Coleman's tenure. He posted five winning seasons at a school which struggled mightily prior to his arrival.
