  1. That is exactly right, I thought Jai scored too and watching on the You Tube after the game, it looked like 14 had it on the ground and they were trying to pull it away from it, then an OR player handed the ball to the ref as they got up. A couple of dink calls on McMinns last drive got them in position for the field goal attempt, Glad they blocked it. Good win for this team, which needed to win a game like this.
  2. I would vote for Gary, he has done a magnificent job at AC,
  3. Kind of surprised me Science Hill putting the Fox Den crowd away so easily, must have been sad seeing all those BMWs and Lexus heading back down 81 or 11E after that one, Should be a good one at the 825, Science Hill has some good athletes and may pose a problem for the Rebels, but yet, I think Maryville gets it done 28-21.
  4. I think the Rebels will win, but not by much, Bearden has proven to be very tough on the defensive side of the ball, but Maryville has a much better offense of the two......Maryville 21-Bearden 13
  5. Probably a win for Pal with a decent margin, Karns folks told me that WV has good size and did a good job containing Bishop most of the game in a 20-14 WV OT win. So, if Pal isn't on their game and the weather is a little rainy, WV might have a chance, but not much of one.....PAL 28 WV 14
  6. West in a runaway, they are playing the best football in 5A right now and may be all the way to Finley Stadium, They won't see a real test until the semifinals.
  7. I like Farragut in this one, they have a good running back and good on the lines, they have played a pretty tough schedule and I think they are well coached. Science Hill will give them a test up there at Steve Spurrier Field, but I believe the Ads come out on top 24-10.
  8. DB needs some tougher early season tests; their first 5 games were walkovers. Move the Oak Ridge game back to the early part of the season, maybe pick up Farragut as well.
  9. Always big and chunky the Cherokees pose problems up front, A Rhea County source told me that he thinks the Cherokees will "have trouble with your skill guys". He said Rhea was did not play well at all against the Kees. I'm hoping the flu and stomach bugs are gone and the Wildcats have a good week of practice and come out fast and ready to play. Last year down there we kind of struggled in the middle quarters and came up a little short (2 yards) at the end. Kees closed out strong after being close for a while against the Cougars last week. Oak Ridge 24 McMinn 14. but could be closer.
  10. Farragut has a good offense and can run and throw, I saw Jeff on Packervision early against Sevier County and unless they have vastly improved, they will exit Fox Den with a loss. Farragut 28-10
  11. West will roll through this round and probably all the way to the semifinals, when it may see Pal again. West 42-14
  12. The air raid of the visors vs the chunky Cherokees, since it is at McMinn and they are hard to beat there, I will go with the Kees to win the same way Oak Ridge won by running right through the Cougars. Coogs best hope is that McMinn gives up big plays to the air raid, they may, but not enough. Kees 28-7.
  13. That was the way it was in the 80s. I remember OR would win the District then and Clinton always finish 2nd but didn't get to go, so when they started having the top two teams go, we named it the "Ron Brown Rule" after former Clinton coach in the 80s Ron Brown, who helped get them to change that, So if you finished other than 1st, you were a Ron Brown team. Kind of funny.
  14. Rhea County healthy is always pretty good, I definitely noted that early in the season they had AC on the ropes before the Mavs pulled it out late. Oak Ridge played the best game they have played all season at Campbell County, came out fast and focused, took it to the Coogs from the start, Thats the way to play, Looking back the week before that with a break that went the right way and not getting a couple of time critical holding calls, they could have beat DB as well. SO, this team is getting better and getting it right at the right time of the year, they got most all of the injured guys back and its good to see Garza getting more comfortable at quarterback executing the offense, IF they do the same against Rhea County they should come out with a first round win and be looking at a pretty good path ahead in the playoffs. I hope we have a good crowd Friday night fans, you need to reward these guys for getting OR a home playoff game!!
  15. No problem for Pal, Ooltewah used to be pretty good several years ago, but from what I understand they don't want to put too much into the program anymore. They have had a couple of good coaches in Ted Gatewood and Benny Monroe and were very good under these guys. This is one of those deals that you hate to see those kids from Ooltewah ride 100 plus miles on the bus to get blown out with a running clock the second half.
  16. I think that 6 classes are too many. I would like to see it go back to 5 classes, with 4 teams in like it was until 2008. The first round 4 teams are sometimes really bad and have to travel to get killed at the 1 team from the other region now. If they went back to 5 classes, that might make some of those 4 teams a little better. Some regions only have 5 or 6 teams and only the top two are very good, so yes, I think the playoffs are too watered down, But, I doubt the TSSAA is going to give up the dollars although maybe tiny in those first-round games by dropping a class.
  17. Bearden is pretty good for a 3-team going into the playoffs considering the two teams that finished above them were Maryville and Farragut. I think they have a good defense and a decent, but not explosive offense. I suspect the score will be in the 21-17 area with DB pulling out a close one, but I would not be surprised if Bearden won since they have played a lot tougher schedule and are used to tough games against good teams and I wonder how much air was let out of DBs bag in that tragic late game, should have had it won loss, to nemesis Science Hill.
  18. I think more than likely its Ooltewah at Powell, Rhea County at Oak Ridge, Karns at Walker Valley and Campbell County at McMinn County. that is if Oak Ridge wins at Campbell County. If they lose there is a three way tie with Karns and Campbell County, with each beating each other it goes through a tie breaker for the 2-3-4 slots.
  19. Win or lose Karns is in the playoffs, why would this be Bishops last game, unless you mean regular season, I think you are right about chippy. Probably a lot of genealogy and heridity talk on the field. Yes Clinton went out of the playoffs with the Lenoir City loss I believe.
  20. Wildcats travel up the hill to Campbell County and a must win to cinch a second round playoff spot at home 1st Round against the Rhea County Golden Eagles, who finish second to the Chunky Cherokees from McMinn County in the old WIng T Region, Similar to the Karns game, the Wildcat offense needs to score points, maybe a lot of them to out distance the Cougars. Expect the tricks from the Cougars like onside kicks and 4th down going to gain extra possessions, The visors really have a good scheme on offense each year, have to be alert on defense Wildcats. Need to win this or face a long trip to Walker Valley,
  21. Going to be a close one, but Farragut has been in Bearden's head. I think the Admirals are better on offense and will score enough points to hold off the Bulldogs.
  22. Smokin trucks invade Beaver Valley, Can BIshop run past the Dragon D while the Dragon offense piles up yards against the Karns defense. Nothing to lose for the Dragons, but Karns may be playing for a better playoff spot.
  23. Steve Spurrier may haunt the Indians again, I bet he knows this is the week and probably keeps track of it from Florida. I thought DBs offense is kind of vanilla, if Oak Ridge had not had killer turnovers and penalties at the wrong times, they would have beat DB, I don't know anything about Science Hill except they were pretty well handled by Powell and AC. They get up for the Indians though and it's at their place. DB pulls this one out, but they need an early lead and not let it get into a big play game.
  24. Game went about as I thought, but the Wildcats made a nice run at it after recovering that fumble late in the half that could have put DB up 21-0, instead the Wildcats got all the way to the DB 15 and got a 32-yard field goal to make it 14-10. Second half they won 9-7 but the big play was the fumble on the after safety kickoff which took away their chance of going down and getting a touchdown or a field goal to take the lead, I thought the officials were a little flag happy both ways 32 penalties, some were really killers. OR must now move on and play a pass heavy Campbell County team, which has had a good season so far and beat the Sevier County Smokin Bears in a firefight last night, The winner gets a second place finish in the playoffs and a home field game first round, the loser goes in as a 3 or 4 team and who knows where down I-75. Cats must continue to work hard and cut down on penalties and turnovers if they are going to make a playoff run, DB has a good shot to get over the Maryville hump, but first they must win at a place they have struggled, Steve Spurrier Field in Johnson City.
  25. I have to go with Powell this year. After a slow start, they have come on to play pretty good ball. If their defense holds up I think they win by 14.
