  1. Do you have numbers or is this your opinion? If you have hard data please share. Been to a lot of games this year and last and don’t see any difference myself
  2. I would be all for the tournament to move venues. Tennessee Tech would be a good location being easily accessible off I-40. It would work for everyone. Murfreesboro is congested and expensive for all.
  3. There have been and always will be blowouts at all levels of the tournament, that was happening with 3 classes and before the public/private split. The new private schools are the charters and magnets. Big deal, find a way to coach and play better. The TSSAA should do a better job of vetting the charters, the magnets are set up by the school system they reside in. Just a reminder that MLK is a magnet and has won a AA state championship in the past. Also I guess it’s watered down even though Nashville-Metro hasn’t won a state championship in 40 years in AAA. If football can have 6 classes in public and 3 in private then basketball can have 4 an 2.
  4. Haston, Jones, Brown, Hamm, Rhodes, and many other great players on that team. They gave a lot of teams nightmares. So fun to watch play!
  5. And football never needed 6
  6. Yes Bruce Slatten coached them. They were an absolute machine.
  7. Without any doubt the 96-97 Perry County team. 37-0 and not a close game in Murfreesboro. Played and incredibly tough schedule and beat several teams in higher class that also reached the state. In my opinion they are one of the 5-10 best teams in any classification in TSSAA history.
  8. The taca cards are only accepted if the district or region approves it. It is not required for schools to accept any card for free entry even the TSSAA card.
  9. If the process had a better design, it wouldn’t be necessary to post on a message board so ‘media’ will know the players across the state. The ‘committee’ would get out and do their job to get the games of the marquee players. I have seen several ‘media members’ on social media openly mocking coaches who send info about their players who are promoting them, that is completely uncalled for. I think the process needs an overhaul
  10. This is a great event for high school basketball in Tennessee. I was told they had over 100 teams and almost that many college coaches there evaluating players.
  11. Absolutely, not since Manning didn’t win the heisman has there been a robbery like this. What a joke! Slatten by far the best season and player in AAA.
  12. Seen the Houston kid play, he’s bigger than Slatten don’t think that he is better
  13. It will be hard to deny Slatten the award, he averaged 35 ppg (not a missprint) on a team that went 22-8. Also, 7 rpg and 4 apg. With over 50 dunks on the season. Signed at Ole Miss.
  14. I really hope after watching the games at Tech this weekend that the city of Cookeville will bid on the state tournament. Much better arena and easier access to the arena than MTSU.
  15. If Tech were willing to host the tournament it would be an upgrade. MTSU is a dated facility, Eblen has been renovated recently and is much nicer than the Murphy Center. It has easier access to I-40 with parking that is better suited. It would be about 4hrs from Memphis and Johnson City. I believe the Upper Cumberland area would come out in droves to watch the average tourney game where in Murfreesboro you don’t get a lot of local ‘fans’ that just come to watch the teams play. Also, the tournament did rotate around the state yearly until the early 70’s with better roads now that idea wouldn’t be bad to revisit.
  16. Generally speaking if you look at the state of our public schools, can anyone fault a parent for trying to get their child into a private school, whether they are athletes or not
  17. No one is picking a battle my friend. This has been a year of sacrificing a lot. As I said earlier most schools that needed some help asked to go with 2 officials at full pay. The TSSAA and the supervisors agreed to go with 3 at the reduced rate for the standards of the game. Also note this, if schools across the state had stuck with the recommended guidelines instead of going on their own, we might not be having this discussion, every school had different policies.
  18. No it wasn’t the officials fault but it wasn’t the kids playing either. No schools received a grant for athletics that I know of. The bottom line is if the season gets cancelled then there will be no games and no officials working. It’s a sacrifice during a difficult time, kids are in and out of school, etc. I know we need officials for games but the games are for the players and schools,. This is meant to be a short term fix for the programs that need it so they can finish the season. Certainly the officials can do this for 1 and 1/2 months.
  19. George Pitts would have played them and probably found a way to win, he never back away from a challenge. I remember his best guard left him to go to Oak Hill in the 90’s then beat them that same year.
  20. Many schools are hurting especially those w/o a large fan base, with no fans makes it even tougher. Have heard that refs even at D-1 level have taken cuts in pay. Several schools asked to only use 2 officials to save money but from what I was told the TSSAA and supervisors of officials wanted to stay at 3 officials for the consistency of the game. Also it is just for the remainder of the regular season. It is not ideal but right now we are lucky to be playing at all and whether the officials, coaches and schools like it or not the kids are the most important part of the equation so they can finish the season.
  21. Obama sat on his hands, leading to several thousand deaths before declaring a state of emergency. Trump stopped all travel to and from China in January slowing the spread here. Europe on the other hand did not and they are now the epicenter, Trump has stopped travel to and from. The problem is this has become politicized especially from the never trumpers to be used against him when we as a country should be pulling together.
  22. Absolutely agree. The media has hyped this and scared everyone to the point of hysteria.
