  1. One of the most egregious attempts by an officiating crew to affect the outcome of a game that I've ever witnessed. Someone should send video of the game to TSSAA officials and that crew should have the rest of the season off. Two tough, physical teams played tonight and one team had penalty after penalty while the other had virtually none. Riverside ran mostly straight at East, while EH ran sweeps and off tackle for most of their positive yardage...I mention that only because even most casual fans know that holding (flags) occurs more frequently on the edges while attempting to turn the corner, yet the calls were lopsided the other way. One in particular, the DE for the Panthers pushed the OL back from the line on a pass attempt, and the QB flushed away from them...the DL disengaged and chased, except the OL tackled him from behind with the white hat looking directly at them with no call. Unsportsmanlike calls went against Riverside all night with EH defenders piling on late, and shoving offensive players into the turf while unpiling. Riverside intercepted an attempt to throw the ball away, and celebrated by running over and congratulating the effort by the DB... flag for unsportsmanlike, yet East pooch punted and touched a Panther resulting in a turnover and East's entire bench ran on the field...nothing. I may be overestimating (a little bit, if any), but I'd guess that Riverside had twenty'ish calls against, while I only remember two or maybe three against EH, and one of them was a blatant personal foul with only a minute and change left. Be nice if @Bigpun54has penalty stats. Sorry for the rant, but sheesh...I'm an impartial fan who just wanted to watch a good football game and couldn't enjoy it for the way it was officiated.
  2. They beat Pearl Cohn the first time, but that only makes it harder to win the next one. If there's a second meeting, Pearl now knows exactly what to expect and from who. The old adage you learn more from a loss than a win applies here.
  3. Going to sound harsh, but it relates to Lloyd Christmas' "so you're telling me there's a chance" quote from the movie. I'm glad that they made the playoff, and sure that they will fight hard but it makes Tyson/Douglass look like even money if they leave Marshall Co. with the "W".
  4. If you could place people in the position of seeding the teams that actually did their homework and gave an honest opinion that would be great but isn't going to happen. An AI based computer program would be better but has some glaring flaws. How does a computer factor the Memphis teams when their sample size only contains others from there? Realistically, what would CC's record be playing in Memphis...could still be 1-9, or maybe 9-1, 8-2...who can guess? I'm only familiar with 1A and 2A from there, but usually they have one or two teams ranging from barely decent to really strong, then the rest would probably go 0'fer in West Tn in a typical year. I know that it's a point of pride to "get in", so it's probably OK to assume that even in tough regions that 4'th is worth shooting for just for that, and endure knowing that some that don't make it are better than some that do.
  5. I'll admit it...when I see the caption "you have chosen to ignore...", I break out in a big 'ol grin!
  6. Some aren't, but some are. Girls more than boys, but lots of boy's teams have little to no support. We went to Booker T Washington a few years back for sub-state...they had an 'Ole Miss commit and were the #1 ranked team in the state but had less than 100 fans. We knew that we were most likely going to get blown out 125 miles from home, but we filled up the visitor's bleachers. Several of our kids even commented that they couldn't believe how many fans made the trip. I hope that they remember that fondly, because I do.
  7. Think I saw that any student under 18 had to be accompanied by an adult.
  8. If you were in Memphis and the law of averages applied to you, you probably wouldn't show up to your son's games. That sounds harsh and judgmental, but when there are more kids on the sidelines than fans that will drive to an away game, something doesn't add up.
  9. I agree that it's hilarious, but it also makes me mad. What a shame that those kids have to suffer through such a shoddy attempt at supporting them.
  10. There've been three cycles where they went across the river (east). In those three they've been placed with Loretto, Lewis, Waverly, Hickman co., East Hickman, Houston Co. Clarksville Academy, Mt. Pleasant, and maybe a couple more that I can't recall at various times, but not all together. Scotts Hill went also, and we're back in 2A next cycle.
  11. Well, in his defense he wouldn't have fit in with the rest if he wasn't horrible.
  12. You hit the nail squarely on the head. The best coach isn't single or unattached, he's got a significant other who's bought in to the coaching lifestyle at least, and a contributor at best. Best one that I know of firsthand has a wife who "runs" a football moms club that on the surface organizes fundraisers, sells merch at the games, and is the greatest cheerleader for the team...behind the obvious she's guaranteeing buy-in from the kids' entire families, not just the sports driven dads. Kids who love being affiliated with the team are also a positive...little girls dressed as cheerleaders, and boys running footballs and water bottles on the sideline ensure that distractions don't have a negative effect, because there aren't many activities that don't include football. If there's a tradeoff of kid's games and family time, it's well worth it.
  13. You can most likely look for the current Region 6 teams to be separated some going forward. With the current enrollment numbers there's no way to keep it as it is and add any teams, so some will either go east of the river, or there'll be a statewide shift to the west with some coming across the river to the west and some farther to the west going to Memphis. either way, there's too many 2A schools west of the river and east of Memphis to place all in one region. Although I doubt anyone being placed in Memphis, it has happened before in 1A.
  14. No idea how the Hawks managed that margin, but I was shocked by it. That was without a doubt their worst performance of the year, with the game against Ripley probably their best. I still don't think it will be the typical 1 loss region winner vs. the #4 seed type game, but again, I could be wrong.
  15. I've got a feeling that everyone may be overlooking Bolivar at Sheffield. Sheffield has a gaudy record, but with all the Memphis teams being on their own little island, there's no way of guessing just how good or not the competition level is there. I'm going to be very surprised if the Tigers don't at least make a game of it...they've definitely seen a different level of competition than exists in Memphis, and Woodmore will have them pumped to get their first playoff win in a long time. On the flip side, Sheffield could be one of those loaded Memphis teams that surface every once in a while with DI talent all over the field, but I doubt it until proven wrong.
  16. He's just an Idiot trying to stir the pot CHARGERFAN. I blocked his content over a year ago and my life has only been better for it. He's well known on the 2A boards for posting ridiculous and inciteful comments. Only gets his jollies if he can get a rise out of you.
  17. Yep...shame that it took until week 10 to find an opponent good enough that McConnell had to keep his foot on the gas until the end. Probably could have had 1,000 yards against any of us slappies.
  18. Funniest post today, and I hate red licorice!
  19. I agree that they don't have a signature win...but with what they returned and what they've been for the past few seasons, you couldn't justify having them out of the top ten until it was obvious they didn't belong there.
