  1. You two need to get a room...sheesh, sound like two geeks with walkie talkies in the 5'th grade.
  2. I get that the baseball format is improved from what it was previously, but not that there could be a comparison between the two. The fundamental difference is that in baseball the defense controls the game and the pitcher controls the ball 100% of the time, and in every other sport the offense has control, and several players have the option of controlling the game. Just for the record, I never liked that one dominant player in baseball had that much influence in the outcome of a game, which could be the polar opposite without that one player.
  3. Yes, four teams from each district did advance... they were seeded by their finish in district tourney play for regional matchups. Regular season determines matchups for district tournament, which in turn seeds the regional, and regionals decides which two play for a spot in the championship blind draw tournament. Not only that, but who plays the sub-state or sectional game at home and who has to travel. Every game has the potential to change a teams placement, matchup, and game site...don't really know how it could be done any better.
  4. I have to confess that I'm as lost as last year's Easter egg with your comparison between baseball and basketball... you say that baseball does it best and everything before regionals in basketball is useless when it's exactly the same format. Regular season record seeds teams for district tournament play, and tournament results seed the teams from both districts for regional matchups.
  5. Absolutely right! Boyette's is a country restaurant that serves "family style" meals...steaks and burgers are good, but if you want some vittles that you'll remember until next season go in and see for yourself. With a menu that includes frog legs (my favorite), quail, country ham, and of course catfish as the protein, and family style bowls of beans, corn, and other veggies, you can't go wrong. We make the 2 1/2 hour drive a few times a year just to eat there, drive around the lake, and carry home a container of their vinegar slaw... only place on earth that makes it like my grandmother used to.
  6. Yes and no. I've been lucky enough to see some bona fide talent in the western division of the state over the past several years, but the number of kids who are legit DI and potential NBA players has tapered to almost nil now, the very few coming along usually go the prep school route and move out of state.
  7. Can't have your cake and eat it too. If you want a long-term coach who won't leave after having success it has to be a local. Success breeds opportunity... if you win you'll get offers, and the more you win the better the offers will be. Give someone a shot not from there, and you can't blame them when they have the opportunity to get paid, to have a better situation, or to go to where they'd rather be. Very few coaches are compensated for all the time spent away from their wives, children, and extended families... not to mention the expenses that they put back into the program and kids, so it's far from a financial decision to be a coach from the outset. Hire a local and you still have to respect any opportunity they have to better provide for their own, or to be in a better position to succeed in their chosen line of work, but you also have the draw of school pride and loyalty that outsiders rarely attach to the place that they happen to work at.
  8. Good coach and even better person...you couldn't do better than Woodmore for an ever-present example of how to be a man of character. One of the finest human beings that I know.
  9. You are exactly right. No argument, no excuses, no explanation. Great friend of mine, and will always be.
  10. One is close to making the hire public, another will be posted soon.
  11. I'm just a little south of Waker, and as far back as I can recall when you stood from the bench, you (at the time) met the coach by the scorers table with a quick handshake. Just for context, the "fist bump" was still years in the future at the time. Don't recall officials being involved back then...there were only two, and I believe that they were out around center court.
  12. If you call it pop, you should have to pay $5 for it...lol!
  13. Wayyyy too simple! Easy to understand... better to develop/continue rivalry games... easier to determine/maintain regional matchups while minimizing excessive travel times/distances. No legitimate reason not to go to this format, so basically it has zero chance of happening. FWIW... I think it's the best option hands down, but I ain't in charge.
  14. 'Gonna be bigger than that CHARGERFAN. Projected growth charts have even the outlying counties (Lake, Obion, Carroll, and even Weakly) with minimal growth due to the auto plant, and the core counties between 20% and 30% growth, with Haywood being affected most but not far ahead of Fayette, Tipton, and the rest. That's a huge overall population increase made up almost entirely of young working age people who are directly responsible for school enrollment. There's not much doubt that schools will have to be addressed, either by greatly increasing enrollment on current campuses, new facilities, or both. There's a good chance that by 2035 (end date of population study) classes, regions, and districts will all bear little resemblance to the way they are now.
  15. Been watching Coach Northcutt's teams for the better part of two decades...I have no idea why they're as bad as they are, but I can guarantee you that I know it's not Northcutt's coaching. His teams always played hard, disciplined, and smart, and when he had talent he was hard to beat.
  16. I'll agree with that, and add that if he can't win there whomever follows him probably can't either.
  17. I remember the teams, but Gray's the only name I can recall... they could ball!
  18. Ha! That's not at all uncommon... lots of Commissioners feel like the school system falls under their complete control, board, director, and all employees, and that their budget be subject to line item veto from them. Couldn't be more mistaken. Schools are funded by Federal, State, and County, and the Board Members are elected officials just as the Commissioners. Playing nice is always best, but sometimes lines have to be drawn in the sand to avoid confusion.
  19. Username Jim315 (or something similar) used to provide a link... hopefully someone will continue. went back a year and found jim.314... hasn't posted the link anyplace yet this season.
  20. I'm beginning to wonder if this is a "healthy" fascination or something a little more obsessive than that.
  21. That's what I mean as well. Perfect opportunity to "go big" and try to get a splash hire, but as we all know, going back to my youth HC has made two hires in house for football...baseball the same...and I don't know (haven't followed) basketball as much, but suspect that's pretty well been kept in the "family" too. Kind of get the feeling that maybe only some titles have been reassigned, and the pecking order remains the same.
  22. Reading between the lines, it looks like your Administration assumed that things were as they were pre-covid and didn't bother checking supply chain issues. Henderson Co. was ready to move forward with the Lexington/Scotts Hill projects a year earlier, but getting material for bleacher construction was not possible for 13 months. Luckily we were aware of this before demolition of the old ones left us sitting on the ground.
  23. Not saying that any of this isn't true (from those sources I'd say it is), but you also need to understand that each district has a coaches meeting before the season to decide (among other things) how all this happens. Some districts/regions have a bid process to host, some draw for rotation to host, and some vote neutral site. Lots of regions rotate even/odd years to district hosts... you get the picture. I'll go on record that I like letting the teams involved decide.
