Is it me, or are there more penalties being assessed in this tournament? I'm not there for this one, but I'm noticing a trend. Can anyone elaborate how Science Hill got the penalty point against Bradley?

We wrestled Bradley's MS team (Lake Forest) and they were a great team. They've been in some nail biters with Cleveland this year with each dual being decided by one match. Wilson Central (Wildcats) & Boyd Buchanan (Buccaneer) are pretty good too. Other MS teams outside of my own that I've been impressed with in Region 1 teams are Science Hill (Liberty Bell/Hilltopper), Pigeon Forge, and Heritage. Hammer is definitely one of the better teams on the MS level, but I'm not sure they'd beat any of the other top Region 1 teams in a dual. They always score well if you combine all of their age groups, but those kids get split up amongst multiple East TN HS teams (some VA teams too) so no one HS program benefits from an influx of talent quite like the other programs mentioned. BTW - Normally by this time I would have already posted the individual TNAAU MS rankings, but with other obligations I've been slacking on getting them over to Hamm. I have them about 80% complete, but with Regions coming up I've decided to hold off until I know which kids will stick to certain weight classes. There are a few who could conceivably be #1 in multiple classes, but until Regions are decided I hesitate on posting anything at all.

How is Heritage Outlaw, Bradley Pride, or Pigeon Forge not on this list? I know this is a combination of all age groups, but I'd be more interested in seeing which team is at the top for tots, bantams, midgets, juniors, and middle school.

Check the score of that match before Ivy got caught....

If you ask me, Lake Forest (AKA Pride) looked pretty darn good to me. Just Saturday I had the other top coaches 'round here pleading me not to invite you guys back to our duals anymore!

If I was you I'd get Troy Fleming. I know he'd take the job and best believe he'd get your best players to stay. You guys interviewed him for an assistant spot back in the day, he's been to the highest level you can get (NFL) and knows the TN high school landscape very well. $20 he'd bring Eddie Moore with him as an assistant too...

As previously mentioned we did beat Science Hill, but they probably did have some kids out. Also, we did beat Mo West the 2nd time around.

LOD, I've always respected your insight on Mid TN football (especially from the Boro) because it is exactly the same info I get from my Riverdale folks who played for the man during his golden era there. These Alcoa loons can say all they want, but comparing what he's done in 3A to what he coached against while at Riverdale in 5A is laughable. Reid, Meadows, almost any decent coach would win at almost the same clip with the talent level to weak schedule they play.

The only problem would be there is only be one starter per weight class. Practice can only get you so far, the most growth comes from live action against other kids not in your practice room. Very rarely do HS teams have multiple guys able to start at Heavyweight. As far as the other weight classes, there's 220 and the 195 pound class below that. Occasionally you have a Clay Strawn (former starting lineman) who would cut 20 pounds or so down to 195 pound class for wrestling season. It would be great if all of our linemen were above 220, but we've always done more with less in terms of O line size and I'd take 5 Clay Strawns on the line every day of the week.

So beating them isn't considered "going blow for blow"? I love how all these MJ posters justify a quarterfinal loss, you guys sound like a bunch of Hoteps.... "We wuz kangs!!!"

We have a lot of the big boys coming out for wrasslin this year. Potentially 6 heavyweights on the roster this year! Hopefully they'll translate that to Coach Water's O-line.

Agreed. Any time people think one game defines them as #2 in the state (when they didn't even get out of the quarterfinals), those people need a reality check. Congratulations to Oakland though, I have a friend on that staff and they deserved it.

For anyone to pick Maryville outside of #2 is confusing to me. Maryville had 2 losses, one to a team they beat who eventually earns the 6A title and one who will be the eventual 3A champion.

You do know Oakland lost this year, right?
