  1. Didn't think Coach Clark was out of town.
  2. The young man was ineligible because he hadn't MOVED into Hendersonville's zone, correct?
  3. Don't know if this is still true but Cairo, Ga. was called the Syrupmakers.
  4. BarneySox2007, The attendance figure for every single school in the state was sent to me from the TSSAA. Now it doesn't clarify the exact number of football playing schools so I just added up the numbers for each classification. I didn't account for any new schools, i.e. Rockvale.
  5. Just went back and looked at attendance for all high schools in Tennessee. The total number of schools is 431 with many that do not play football, I stated earlier, I believed it was 340 schools that played football. The 431 is an accurate figure that came directly from TSSAA.
  6. blazer1set, I believe the total number of football playing schools in Tennessee is about 340.
  7. Bigtime1950, Not sure owning 2 houses at once is a violation IF THEY LIVED in only 1 house in the proper zone. Always heard the way to beat the rule was move to 2nd house while trying to sell house #1. House #1 is not going to sell when you double or triple the asking price over the market price.
  8. Opie, You are correct. Dad owned Knoxville Wholesale Furniture and believed he lived on Ruggles Ferry Rd or just off Ruggles. LL got him to AC and Dad took him to Bama camp and they offered him. Don't think he played the whole season at AC, Bama signed him and the joke was Dad outfitted the coaches offices with new furniture. Don't think he played but 1 year at Bama and never saw the field. Yep, Officer Gaston thanked Coach Duncan for everything he tried to do for Caleb, Jr. but Jr. decided against playing for the Panthers and played for the Bobcats. Yes, Chavis moved his family just inside Central's zone and a family member moved into his Powell home. Think after the season ended or school year ended, Chavis moved back and sold the Central zone house to the family member. Worst thing that happened to Powell was losing K.R. to the Bobcats. The good ole days of recruiting in Knoxville. Don't make'em like they used to.
  9. HTV, Did the Hubers home in Sterchi Hills ever sell? I also remember a former UT coach having a son that transferred from Powell to Central. Can't remember the player's name but he started at Carter, then transferred to Central, eventually wound up at Anderson Co., signed with Bama, Dad owned a furniture store, and had there home in Carter's zone up for sale and kept moving into apartments in different zones. He might have been at Oak Ridge between Central and ACHS. Did Josh Lewis live in Powell's zone? I am positive about this next statement because I stood on the steps leading down to the track at HHS and heard the entire conversation; Police officer asked if I had seen a certain head coach that morning (spring county wide elementary school field day) and I told the officer he was in our fieldhouse changing clothes. When coach came out the officer told coach he appreciated everything that coach was trying to do for his son, but he had decided to go to Central where he could play with his friends, instead of Powell to play football. CG were the officer and the players initials. I darn near fell over the railing when I looked at the coach and his expression at the officer's comments with me standing right there.
  10. Heard there might be a change in coaches at a local HS. Hope the rumor is not true.
  11. Certainly anxious to see if the Legislative Council will approve and pass the proposal's from TnFCA for spring practice and for 2 days of 7 v. 7 in June. Believe there will be more proposal's in the coming year for pre-season practice regulations. The sport is safer now than ever before and we hope a few tweaks will make it even better.
  12. Great for Brandon Clark but why wait for 2 months to hire the man you have had in your building for the past 19 months? Congrats Coach Clark and good luck this coming season.
  13. That is correct. The first playoff game I saw was 1983 in the old Astrodome. I could be wrong but I think Houston Yates was one of the teams and possibly Odessa Permian was the opponent. I think attendance was in the 40,000 range and it was not for the state championship. We had been at Rice for 1 week and had been on the road recruiting and we all got back in town on Friday afternoon and went to the game. Paid our own way so it was legal. I remember watching film at Richardson HS in Dallas. The coach was Winston Duke and he advised me to buy some boots. I wore a pair the next week when I visited! I didn't know UIL played by college rules at that time so it was different watching a HS game played by college rules. Recruited Texas for 7 years, Metroplex and west Texas. Apples and oranges when comparing Tennessee to Texas is an understatement.
  14. bluedevil58, According to TSSAA enrollment numbers we have 8 HS that would play in Texas largest class. Bartlett, Blackman, Cookeville, Collierville, D-B, Mt. Juliet, Oakland, Stewarts Creek all have 2100+ students according to the latest TSSAA enrollment figures.
  15. Many differences in Tennessee and Texas HS football. The only class in Texas that has spring practice in pads is the largest class. That may have changed but that was the norm. Another thing is all HS coaches must teach at the HS where they coach, no community or volunteer coaches and that came from the head of the coaches association in Texas.
  16. I have no idea what you are talking about. I recruited Houston Co. when Coach Clark was the head coach but that was 6-7 years ago. He was always available to talk and honest with his evaluations of his players. Other than that, it just what I said in my first sentence, I have no idea what you are talking about.
  17. Trying to figure out what wardog1970 means by their comment.
  18. Congrats to Bryce Robinson, Conner Huff and Caleb McQueen for being selected to the Tennessee All-Star team that will play Kentucky in the Food City Border Bowl held at Sevier Co. HS, January 19.
  19. Think Rhea Co. has a scheduled game with Northeast.
  20. Way to go Bobcats. Congrats to Coach Rosser and Coach Hughes, all Bobcat players and fans. You represented Black Oak Ridge well!
  21. TnFCA sends prayers to the Williams family.
  22. I have known a lot about Central in the past and only yesterday was I told about this current crop of Bobcats. Sounds like an interesting matchup. I know Joel Helton will be looking down and pulling for the Bobcats.
  23. I thought my memory wasn't that bad. Also beat Halls round 2, 21 - 3.
