  1. Going way back. But when I was in Tennessee in the late ‘80’s don’t I recall a couple of Alcoa teams ranked in the Top 25 Nationally?
  2. Agree on Baylor being hard to find. Had to try and give a guy directions in the 90’s. Finally gave up and said just try to follow me.
  3. Years ago I had a bad cold and sat in the press box next to our OC on a cold night instead of my usual place on the sidelines. I was surprised to see that he allowed the QB coach to call almost all of the plays on the sidelines, only occasionally offering guidance over the headsets. I do remember him saying late in the 3rd quarter “If you’re going to run that fake punt you’d better call it now.” It went for a TD.
  4. Saw that on another site. Surprising. Said he was likely going to take an assistant coaching job somewhere closer to his family.
  5. When i was in Tennessee the gate from the district jamborees was used to pay for catastrophic insurance. Of course, I am sure it was cheaper back then.
  6. I heard a year or so ago that he had been promoted to HC at the school he was at. Didn’t know about the BC thing. Congratulations.
  7. Truth. He even interviewed for a prominent job here in Georgia years ago.
  8. Nothing against Tyner, but your previous coach, with a state championship ring, just left to become a position coach in Georgia. Doesn’t that speak volumes?
  9. Waggoner is an excellent coach. He spent 3 seasons at my alma mater, one of which tied the school record for regular season wins. The only knock on him is that he never stays in one place too long. BTW, I like your style.
  10. Not riled up Mr. Blaze. And I’ll vouch 100% that you are the biggest Blackman supporter on this site and that I have no dog in this fight. In fact, I usually add the latter quote when I make a post like I did. Just adding a relevant example from an outsiders perspective. I hope the hire works out great for you guys. BTW, I remember, back when I used to go to the BlueCross Bowl at MTSU each year, that one particular year during Riverdale’s heyday, a man and his wife wearing Blackman shirts or jackets came in and sat a couple of rows in front of me. Could that have been you?
  11. Some of our fan base was underwhelmed with the hire that we made a couple of months back, and then he went out and assembled what is probably the best coaching staff in NW Georgia, and no, I am no longer a part of it, although I still help out a little. So give him a chance.
  12. Lol. I destroyed all of my Florida Gators clothes after they lost to Vandy last year.
  13. to accept assistant job in Georgia.
  14. It surprised me as well. I thought he might return to Rhea Co. when Pemberton retires. Even though it didn’t go as planned, his offer to step down at Rhea Co. so they could bring back Tim Hammontree is one of the most selfless moves I’ve seen in this game.
  15. About the financial aspect I know nothing, but I live in Georgia, not far from Chattanooga, and hosting the games is a big deal to them. If there was still such a thing as newspapers, the story would be on page 23 Section D in Nashville.
  16. Murfreesboro essentially ran them out of town. They were tired of losing money on them. We here in Georgia just went through this battle (again.) When the Falcons moved to the new stadium they basically raised the price to the point that the GHSA couldn’t justify paying it. They moved down the road to the Georgia St. stadium (the former Turner Field) and watched as attendance plummeted each year. A couple of weeks ago they bit the bullet and signed the contracts to return to the Falcons stadium. I’ve always had a novel idea that actually had a little momentum in Georgia about 10 years ago. Instead of paying a small fortune to play in a 2/3 empty stadium, they identified 32 high school stadiums in Georgia deemed worthy of hosting a title game. When the teams in each class are determined, you pick the most centrally located town between the two cities and play there. With GPS technology a computer could likely select the cities. Until about 20 years ago state finals were still played on campus in Georgia. But, no team deserves to have to be a visiting team in a state final. I remember one coach who’s visiting team lost such a game saying “If we would have won, I can guarantee you that we would have had to fight our way out of that place.”
  17. Was 1987 state championship. In 1989 Rhea Co. edged them out in the quarterfinals at their place. Rhea lost to Oakland in the semifinals. Collins was indeed a beast though.
  18. I have posted this in the past, but if you know Cleveland’s history, they have never been successful when playing in the state’s largest classification, even under Benny Monroe. Their 1982 run to the finals was when they briefly got to drop to AA in the 3 class days. Once they returned to AAA they made it past Round 2 once, in 1985 when they were eliminated by Jeff Co. in Round 3. Of course the threepeat was in 4A.
  19. Forgive me for going way off topic- But FYI Coach Danny Wilson accepted the position of Assistant Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator at Chattooga High in Georgia yesterday.
  20. True about the list of guys they’d call, be it the AD or whoever makes the hire. The list is probably more in their head than on paper though. And it’s more about if the HC were to suddenly pass away than resign.
  21. Bingo. Me and a gentleman from Georgia had a spirited debate about this a year ago. He stated that he had rather be a HC at “Ten-Buck-Two” than a coordinator elsewhere. I disagreed, saying if the money was close I had soon be a coordinator. What people who haven’t been in the business don’t realize is as a HC you spend 20% of your time on football and 80% of your time on other junk. This is especially true at larger schools. You are responsible for every single detail, every single week. It gets old in a hurry.
  22. You guys missed your big chance, Rush Propst accepted a coaching position at an Alabama private this afternoon.
  23. 93 Cleveland remains the most dominant team I have ever seen. 94 was above average. I’m still not sure how the 95 team won state.
