Rumors afloat in BGA

Did Pittman ever get his teaching certification? That could be a pretty big stumbling block to his getting a head coaching job don't you think?

No he has not but he is currently working toward it. No, he is not involved in this situation. In private schools you do not have to have certifacation but in the public schools you do. It is a stumbling block for him but he has a nice gig at BA. Hopefully he will get his chance because he would be one heck of a coach. Kids love him he is like a pied piper with his f-ball players. Success has been rough since 2002 because of a change. Overall great coach, wrong time.

I hope that the new coach is named this week because this thread has gone on for far too long folks. We have mentioned everyone except the Easter Bunny and if the search goes on long enough even that name will be thrown around come April.

Coach 'Bunny' could not be reached for comment today. Seems he was busy with the lunch lady and the salad bar. :thumb:

I resent that remark. I can assure you that Rankin is more hated than he is loved..... AND that INCLUDES coaches on his staff and TEACHERS in his building.

riverdaleman.........his oldest son was at ST Rose this yr playing on their football team. Where he was prior to that......I have no clue.

that usualy happens when your good at something we like to call people like you haters.........

I don't think anyone told me about the clearing house from our school. That's YOUR responsibilty to find that out...not the coaching staff's.

I really don't think I would be attacking beethoven if I were you. He has a pretty good perspective on high school football.

I played 4 years for riverdale and i am now playing Division I A football i have yet to have a coach as good as Rankin. Rankin tells you when you first walk in that door that if you work hard and take care of your books you will have a chance to play I A football. He consistantly reminded us about books and we had no lifts on thurs days. That was time sat a side for progects and so on. The man can't make kids excell in school he is a football specialist, not rocket sceintist.Oh yah all a kid has to do is pass 5 out of 6 class and be on path to grduate to play ball.oakland would take rankin if they had a chance. I live in the boro I know everything about every school here..........

I wouldn't argue that the ultimate responsibility is that of the player....having said that...the only two programs that I'm very close to...Ravenwood and Oak Ridge....do take on that challange. I think any good program does see this activity as part of the coaches committment to his players. Any good coach will work thru their ADs office to make sure his kids are ready for the next level...not only their play...but all other facits of their athletic careers...which would include actually getting to the next level....

After all....it's to the schools best interest to get as many kids ready for the next level as possible.....and by school...I mean the ADs office and the coaching staff.

No Sir don't agree and that's the reason I've been around I A football 2 years and I've seen at least 20 players flunk out, becaues they were hand feed inhigh school and got here and it was just to much. Their becoming men and part of that is being responsible pass the test get cleared by clearing houes. i had to sat my fresh year due to NCAA rules reguarding grades low gpa.Due I blame riverdale no, I blame myself I didn't pass the test I didn't have a high enough GPA. Don't let these guys who done got kicked off the team, or when it came time to gradute tell you oh it was the coach story caues it's a flat out lie........

Horsefeathers!

Colleges recruit and sign the best players. Some colleges have actually paid to get the best players. Why would they not pursue the best players at Riverdale or any school?

Compare the college signings between Riverdale and Maryville. I bet Riverdale wins that one.

Thankyou.... I mean we only send about 2 or 3 DI A a year i mean all that DI AA and other don't matter

Then why have two of the recent Mr football's not been eligible to play their first year in college. You would "think" if you have 2 players that are so talented that they are chosen "best" in the state, that Rankin would have made more of an effort to keep their "academics" up to par for their OWN good.

Who are you? If your signature is your name, I have never heard of you.

Also, you tell me, if Rankin is as wonderful as "you" say, why didn't he get this BGA job then? Or Baylor? Or OR? Or Cleveland? Or any of the other jobs he has interviewed for? Maybe his credentials "scream" champion, but obviously his "personality" doesn't to the interviewers.

I agree with you F'ball, not only the past couple of Mr. Football award recipients but some of his top players before that are left working small jobs here and there and not having a chance to go to college. Shuttle you are a perfect example of not being prepared, look at all of the misspelled words in your post. Here is a quote to live by "It is better to remain quite and let them think you don't know anything, than open your mouth and remove all doubt."

Unbelievable.

RESPONSIBILITY. Lets spoon feed the little kiddies to prepare them for life. If ANY high school kid can't pass high school, its usually (99.9999%) the fault of the kid and his parents. No head coach in the state can magically motivate a student to desire academic excellence....I'm sure next thought will be "sit them down for bad grades", that might work until the losses pile up and the "sit" (ie. fire) the coach for lack of performance.

If and kid wants to go to college, then the responsibilty of there PARENTS & STUDENTS is clear...encourage hard work in the classroom, discourage the notion that athletics is the "free ticket". It isn't. Athletes and there parents are responsible for balancing the academic and athletic demands placed on these children.
