:thumb: Since when can a referee eject anyone from the gym that's not a player or coach? That's not their job.

I'd like to hear more about this before passing judgement. I haven't seen anything in the paper or online concerning this. I'd also like to know what the TSSAA's position is on referees tossing spectators. Never heard of that before.

Perhaps a ref can't do it, but in most situations, all he'd have to do is say something to the principal and it'll be taken care of.

That's fine. If an administrator or constable or whatever security wants to escort someone from the gym, I have not problem with that. Referees should be worried about what's happening on the court. If an official took it upon himself to personally eject a spectator, I have a big problem with how that scenario plays out.

Where did you make this up at?

Seems it would have been front page news in that rag KNS and it didn't even make the paper. VERY Suspect!

didn't happen. FACT!

Hey OC grow up

I was wondering the same thing......If it happened send us a link to a story somewhere...Maybe the Knox. News-Sentinel,I'm sure it would have been in there today....And it being Tennessee,it would have took over the top story from the Donavon Mc Nabb-T.O.-Hugh Douglas threesome on ESPN,otherwise known as the Duke Blue Devil basketball network... :D

I want to say it isn't like this was just a dumb fan who may not understand the game this was a Div.1 head coach of a Top 15 team who I would think knows what is and isn't a foul if he saw something that should have been called then I am glad someone like Coach Pearl called them on it. This was probably an official who was looking to make a name for himself that I was the one to throw Coach Bruce Pearl out of a game.

I don't know what other states are like but the TSSAA has to have some of the worst officials around in basketball. I have seen girls games where they call a foul almost everytime down court and also it seems that some teams get favortism and things like over the back calls, walks etc.. in boys games go uncalled on some teams or just because a team is down by a good number of points they get away with everything.

as for people getting thrown out of games. we had a mother get thrown out of a game, she is very supportive,, and has been thrown out before. but i have no idea about bruce getting thrwon out of a game, i got on here and there it was, so i started reading. but whether he got thrown out of not, im sure it was for good reason, if he did. and yes the asst. principle excorted out the woman the other night. i think a ref said something, and then he came over there and escorted her out as the fans all gave her a stnading obation. the refs have been horrible this year over in western middle TN, as they are as i hear in East TN. GO VOLS!!!

Bruce Pearl got kicked out of the game last night. He was yelling and screaming and making a scene. The ref stopped the game and made him leave. He got up waved and smiled at the crowd and then left. Once he left the building, the game resumed play.

Why would the news sentinel print this, to show that the coach made an ###### of himself? BigCat1, this did happen, just because you arent in the loop doesnt mean it didnt happen.

All the vols people, listen to sports talk in the area, it was talked about all day. Call Vol Calls and ask him yourself. Im sorry you dont believe the truth. Next thing you are going to say the Vols football recruiting class was phenomanal. Go and crawl in your orange and white checkered board hole.

Actually, the referee has the authority to remove any player, coach, or fan who breaks the TSSAA sportsmanship code and disrupts the game. I have seen several fans removed from games. The offical (in any sport) has the authority to forfeit a team if its anyone associated with the game disrupts the game in to such a level that he or she feels the game has been compromised or if someone is potentially in danger (this is an extreme case that I have personally only seen once in basketball and heard of once at a baseball game).

I have no clue about Pearl's case, what did or did not happen. He does have to realize that as a SEC coach, his behavior will be even more scrutinized and he will be expected to behave at a higher integrity level than the average fan. I assume that if he was kicked out, he was being unruly and would have been warned at least 2 times before being removed, unless he came out on the court...in either case the ref would have every reason to toss him.

From an article over at GoVolsXtra - and in Saturday's News Sentinel and this one in the Tennessean LINK seems like Mr. Mynatt is like almost every other Knoxville official.

Chris Low's article isn't as detailed as Drew Edward's (which contains comments from Pat Ryan, who was seated next to CBP) - but it seems like this situation was one where Mr Mynatt saw a situation where he could get his name in the headlines. Congrats to Mr Mynatt for doing just that.

An official should NEVER, EVER, EVER look into the crowd, or acknowledge the crowd, or speak to the crowd. If an official does that, he acknowledges he has a case of rabbit ears and also acknowledges he has lost focus on the game at hand (this game which was neck-and-neck down to the wire).

The ONLY times this should occur are:

1) The heckler is using crude, obscene, vulgar language

2) The heckler physically threatens the official (ie: Meet me after the game, I'm going to whip you, I'm coming to kick your ***, et. al.)

And if this official is like most Knoxville officials - its likely he did miss a lot of calls - and just because the ejected party is a D1 basketball coach - doesnt mean he doesnt have the right to voice his opinion.

Kudos for Coach Pearl trying to diffuse the situation and going ahead and leaving without creating a stir.

Thumbs down to Mr Mynatt trying to - and - getting his name involved -when no one should know who the officials are (if you're a good official). Its doubtful Bruce Pearl threatened Mr Mynatt, nor used vulgar language.

The TSSAA won't do anything to control this type of behavior from their officials, because they are in dire need of officials, therefore they refrain from any kind of serious evaluations or reprimands because the officials can just up and quit.

However, hopefully, someone, somewhere gets this guy and tells him he should never, ever look into the crowd and acknowledge a fan, whether its Johnny's parents, Steven Pearl's father, the governor, or the president.

PTS...Thanks for showing some proof....

Doesn't sound like it was much of a deal...But,I guess the ref will have his 15 minutes now...

Having two sons involved in sports and watching my youngest finish his junior high season this past week,I don't see how more of this doesn't happen...The refs are getting younger and more cocky, you can't say ANYTHING,anymore to these guys without them staring you down with that whistle..It's kind of funny though, don't these guys remember they have to go back to work the next morning and face some of those same fans???...That whistle won't protect them much then.... :)

Also, technically he wasn't thrown out of the game...He watched the remainder of the game from the lobby...Had he been ejected,he would have been asked to leave the gym entirely..... :)
