I was wondering what people thought of Hillwood's football future. They have one of McGavock's coaches and made him the head coach and stole one our coaches at Stratford. I'm wish them the best and I will sit back and see what you guys think....... P.S. The spartans are coming for everybody in the 4a region!!!!! PAY BACK

Dude, they didn't steal your Coach, they just gave him a job teaching in the school, something that Stratford wouldn't/couldn't do.

As for Hillwood, it will take a while. Link left a big mess. Baskin will work and improvement will be made.

What happened to Hillwood's head coach from last year? We used to either practice or scrimmage them. Nothing this year.

Yeah, heckuvamess. One season removed from a perfect regular season. There must have been more to it. Was someone else trying to coach for the coach?

Coach Baskin deserves a pass for this year and he will need one as the Toppers will struggle to win 2 games at the most imo. That will be 1 win better than last year. They have a good group of Juniors which will give them a chance at the Playoffs in 07. They will have Spring practice for the first time in 3 years in 07 which can only help. Hillwood went 9-2, 12-1 & 1-9 the last 3 years. 22 wins in 3 years is not bad for a Nashville Metro Football program. Watch out for Junior reciever Brandon Harris, he is the real deal. Good luck to the Toppers

12NCS, how do you like your new home? Give me a yell.

Hillwood was 6-5, 9-2, 12-1, and 1-9 the last four years. 28 wins from 2002-2005. I bet they didn't have 28 wins from 1992-2002 combined.

I think the world of Jerry Link as a person. He worked hard for those kids. He could be an ornery old mule sometimes, but what coach is not every now and then? Obviously, football is not my area so I could not/would not pass judgement there (although that doesn't stop A LOT of people on here from doing it  ).

The "mess" at Hillwood goes WAY deeper than any one football coach could ever create OR clean up for that matter.

Footballgirl 08, you are an idiot. The facts were straight and sometimes a blessing can become a curse right before your eyes. Just look at your leadership there. Be careful what you wish for. It can sometimes come true.

Brandon Harris is definitely the real deal. He will shine in basketball as well.

Is coach Keeton still there?

Good luck BB. I wish you nothing but the best. Batman, Wesley, BHarris you are still my boys. I will be out there for ya.

Hillwood will continue to have problems with their football program this season and there is nothing that one person can do to help. The Hillwood & West Meade neighborhoods probably have 70% of the school age residents attending private schools. Hillwood needs to become an academic magnet school like Hume Fogg & MLK but with a football program.

hillwood durng their winning seasons won of pure talent from the '05 seniors and 06 seniors now that they are gone hillwood will go back to have 30 or less people on the team and empty stadiums as it did for many years before they started winning, its sad but true, i know many people at hillwood wanted link gone for a very long time and they finally got it, hopefully the new coach will turn things around, but i dont think it will happen for atleast 3-5 years

The people who bought homes in Westmeade/Brookmeade (people 25-40 yrs. old)

in the 1960's / 70's / 80's are now between the ages of 55 and 75 typically. So, those neighborhoods have lots of retired and about to be retired folks...their kids who went to Hillwood back in the 1960's / 70's /80's are out of college, out in the world...some of them even moved to Williamson, Sumner, RUTHERFORD, Cheatam, etc,,, and now the "kids" have kids of their own who attend Brentwood, Harpeth, Wilson Central, etc.etc....

A house in Westmeade that was $42,000 in 1965 new and re-sold for $125,000 in 1982 - even being 17 years old - now resells for about $400,000 even though it's now over 40 years old. Location, location, location. If a young parent can get a really nice new house for half that and pay less tax in a surrounding county, most will do exactly that. It would be nice to keep a loyalty to where you grew up and played ball, etc...but come on. A 14 year old kid about to start high school won't care all that much where Mom and Dad went - especially if they can go to a school that is the modern day equivalent of the 1970's version of Hillwood, Overton, etc. (notice in the photo below, nice houses within walking distance of Lavergne High - kids can walk to school)

I agree with the magnet school idea. That part of town's peak growth for young parents was many decades ago. I am as nostalgic as anybody, but being realistic has set in. It's time for the school to move on to the next phase.

p.s. - I LOVED that 12 game win streak year before last, but was sad that more old HHS people from the old days made no attempt to go to the games.

My sister said if they made the state championship game that she would fly back in from St. Louis and wear all green at the game. We're talking about a 50 year old lawyer. Of course, they fell in the semi-finals. However, THAT is the kind of spirit schools need. From the current AND past students.

    • My esteemed interlocutor, regrettably, I find myself bereft of your contact information. Moreover, it behooves me to clarify that I do not currently occupy the esteemed position of coach. Were I to hold such a position, rest assured, trepidation towards yourself and your team would find no foothold within my disposition. Permit me to opine that Gallatin's achievements appear, in my estimation, notably devoid of commendable accolades, save for the distinguished presence of Volunteer State, where my progeny, with admirable distinction, attained scholastic honors. Securing the contact information of the newly appointed head coach upon their assumption of duties should pose no undue challenge for me.
    • Alas, your inquiry persists without resolution. Within the intricate tapestry of criteria delineated, the identification of a singular candidate who effortlessly encapsulates the synthesis of essential attributes proves to be a formidable task. It must be noted that the mere apprenticeship under a revered mentor does not inevitably confer suitability for the esteemed role within the Trousdale County coaching hierarchy. Indeed, compatibility transcends mere proximity, necessitating a profound alignment of values, principles, and competencies to ensure a harmonious union with the esteemed responsibilities inherent to this distinguished position.
    • Well, its that time of year again.  I really enjoy the summer camps.  This year, we will be hosting a play date on the 4th which will include Hampton, Unaka, and johnson county.  I think hampton is hosting one on the 5th.  5 freshmen will join the lady landers this year.  We will have 2 seniors, 8 juniors, and 3 sophomores.  Gonna be a new look for us this year.  This group is pretty dang good.  Unaka will be the new favorite in R1a.  They got a really good transfer who has an NIL deal.  And NG has most of their starters back.
    • Gotta take care of business in the village of Eagles first! But you will pass though the Boro on the way.
