QUOTE(frankieD12 @ Mar 15 2007 - 06:41 AM) 826412555what is temple bringing to the table? just size mostly is all i want to know...

What do they bring to the table? Well, let's see . . . I know that there are many people who don't think that Temple has a chance against the mighty west teams but you don't have a 32-3 record for nothing. In Temple, you have a team that is quick on defense and can handle the ball very well. They really don't have that much size, because the tallest person on the team is only about 6'4. They have one of the best players in the state in Seth Skogen (Mr. Basketball candidate). They have some pretty good shooters at all positions. They pass the ball well and work together as a team. They are fairly patient on offense and work for the open shot. Are they the best team in the state? That is yet to be proven when they play Humboldt on Friday. Can they beat Humboldt? Yes, if they play the way they are capable of playing. Will they win? I believe the answer is yes.

There is no question that both teams are good teams. Temple is the number two team in the state. Humboldt, being number five, ousted the number one team, Union City.

That being said, Humboldt, by their own admission, is not as good a team as last year and Temple's team this year is better than Grace's team last year. Grace put Humboldt out last year in a well played game by both teams. True, Eldridge was the unquestionable key to Grace's win with his outstanding shooting that eluded him in the final in their loss to Union City last year.

The odds, I think, are actually in Temple's favor. Judging from what I have been reading, Humboldt seems to think that because they beat Union City that nobody is standing in the way of them winning it this year. The road to the gold ball goes through Chattanooga.

They can beat Humbolt! Grace heard all about how good they were last year and we see where that got them. If Temple just plays there game the same thing will happen, our region gets the win. Good luck!

QUOTE(matt_24 @ Mar 14 2007 - 10:15 PM) 826412426After watching both teams play for the first time today, I'm gonna have to pick Humboldt in this one. I just wasn't at all impressed by Temple. Good luck to both teams.

I have to agree. Temple didn't impress me any last night. Appeared that Temple only allowed one guy to shoot, and he wasn't nailing them down like I expected from a Mr. Basketball candidate. I'm going to have to say that Humboldt wins by 8 over Temple.

Temple is going to step on the floor with a bigger, more athletic team when they face Humboldt on Friday....Humboldt always steps up their level of play when the competition they are playing is stronger..Temple will pose some match-up problems, mainly with Skogan....Temple was very unimpressive in their win against a 24-10 East Literature club...They shot the ball poorly(31.3% from the field & only 18.8% from the three). They will not beat Humboldt with that kind of shooting effort.....Humboldt on the other hand will give Temple fits all day on the boards...With Sain and Epperson,Temple will have trouble matching up physically, especially if the refs allow the two teams to play a physical game....On offense,Derek Sain is going to have to finish inside..He had 14 opportunities to score and only converted 5 of those shots...He could have had a monster game yesterday...Epperson played a pretty good game, save his awful free throw shooting(1-9)...Humboldt on the whole was pitiful from the free throw line shooting 41.2%(14-34)...They will lose in the tournament if they continue that trend....The Vikings will have to get something out of Odell Jackson..He had a forgettable day scoring,no points in 29 minutes of play(0-7 FG,0-3 3'S & 0-1 FT)...Neither of these teams set the court on fire with their performance yesterday, but I just got to believe with everything on the line and both knowing that they have a very tough opponent facing them, the level of play will improve...Looking forward to this one.....

I'll go with....

Humboldt-72

Temple-64

QUOTE(PBG030 @ Mar 15 2007 - 08:51 AM) 826412731People on here are ignorant. You base your judgments on teams by watching them one time. I am not saying temple will win, but I know both teams (Humbodlt and temple) didn't play to their best abilities yesterday.

You almost have to base it on a one time performance at this level. I believe if you want to win the state, you better be on your toes everytime you go out there. Don't count on luck always being there for you. You have to have those key players step it up. That's sometime I didn't see Temple doing last night. I didn't get to see the Humboldt game, so I listened to comments by a friend. I'm still taking Humboldt.

Maybe I should have predicted your team to win.....

With all this talk about class on these boards, you sure showed a lack of it...Ignorant??...With a post like that, you are showing yours.....

travellin_man...good post...You are right, what happened during the season doesn't even matter now...At this time of the year, you should be peaking...If Temple is peaking, they are in bigtime trouble....

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
