Postseason Split

Here is an example of what could happen:

My school, Lawrence County, used to be in the Central Tennessee Conference, many moons ago. I would like to see that again. LCHS, Columbia, Lincoln County, Tullahoma, Shelbyville, Franklin County, Coffee County. The exact same grouping as 8-AAA basketball is now. Maybe another school or two would be added. If not, you have 6 guaranteed games each year. At playoffs some of these schools would be 4A and some 5A for the playoffs.

A lot of rivalries could be restored, rivalries that have died because of region requirements.

So, to answer some of the earlier questions, schools could reform conferences and get a guaranteed number of games, compete for conference championships instead of region championships, and then still have the playoffs.

QUOTE(tnsddeveloper @ Mar 22 2007 - 08:40 AM) 826420182In addition, I don't think they would accept TSSAA oversight if they are virtually split anyway. Why would they?

I tend to agree with you on this one. We must remember that there are legal reasons that the privates cannot simple say "we don't like the TSSAA" and choose to leave it, but there are ways in which privates (if enough found the new system unfair)

could split off into their own orginization.

QUOTE(Bighurt @ Mar 22 2007 - 08:49 AM) 8264201922. How do you rank or seed teams for the playoffs? If this is done by a committee, no one can be expected to evaluate teams from different areas of the state that they have not seen play. Computer rankings are only as good as the data and logic that are built into them.

We can all agree that the method for determining the number one team in college football is stupid. A computer takes a few different variables and decided the top 2 teams which play each other. However one thing i think we all could agree with is that if the exact same computer system picked out say... the top 32 teams in the nation. IF these teams play a tournament to decide the nation championship we could all agree that the winner was the national champion couldn't we???

Well i think that any kind of committee or computer or whatever could hopefully give us a good idea of the top 32 teams in the state of tennessee per classification. and then a regular 5 game playoff would give us a state champion that we could all agree on. Any team that is close enough to the bubble that there is even a chance that they could not be considered one of the top 32 teams would not make an impact in the overall playoffs or "tourney" if you will.

QUOTE(MPHSTIGERS87 @ Mar 22 2007 - 12:45 PM) 826420391I agree with you coacht, I dont see why a public would not play a private during the regular season. However, I think before the publics agree to this new allignment, there would need to be a split come playoff time.

The only problem is see is that i know some publics would not play privates and i would bet there is a few privates that don't want to play publics. I will use FCS. our big rivals are Watertown, Gordonsville, and Trousdale is becoming one and so is Ezell. Well Watertown might still play us if not forced to by a region, but i don't know if Gordonsvilel would play FCS if they didn't have too. And i can already tell you that Trousdale would not play FCS at all if they weren't forced to. So some teams would not want to play the opposite type of school.

QUOTE(MPHSTIGERS87 @ Mar 22 2007 - 04:16 PM) 826420504Why? What would be there reason?

You have undoubtebly heard the rumor that last time Trousdale was supposed to move up to 2A they moved up to 3A to avoid the privates. I do not think this is true at all. But the fact that this rumor could continue for as long as it has will show one thing. It is a well documented fact that Coach Clint Satterfield does not like private schools. I think that even Trousdale posters on coachT would admit to that.

QUOTE(coacht @ Mar 22 2007 - 10:57 AM) 826420201I think publics and privates would play. We never had a problem with that prior to the advent of playoffs. The method for deciding who goes to the playoffs could impact that, though. Schools like BA and Brentwood might not want to play but that would be for many reasons, wouldn't it?

Shorter travel to regular season games would be a plus, for private schools.

Coach,

I don't think the publics would play us. Call me a bit cynical, but since this whole split/DII/multiplier thing began in 96 fewer and fewer publics are willing to play the privates. As evidence I cite our schedule for the last 2 years...we picked up Fulton, Red Bank, Cookville, and Baylor because no other publics in the area would schedule us...I can promise we wouldn't have played quite that schedule had we had any other choice...

On the other hand, several smaller publics DID schedule us for this round...so I could be wrong. Could be because we took it on the chin the last couple of years too...

QUOTE(cbg @ Mar 22 2007 - 08:21 PM) 826420613Did Satterfield not play QB for Sewanee? Is Sewanee not an elite D3 private school?

I don't know about Jim ... but his son Wesley just completed his eligibility as a QB at Sewanne. Excellent athlete ... and although I don't know him personally, I hear he is a great kid too.

I believe they would but it might take a 2 or 4 year cycle for that to be commonplace. The whole playoff thing, and the animosity that represents, spills over into every sport including the fb regular season. There will be certain schools which will not play certain schools, ever, if there is a perception that the kids attending the private school are kids that would otherwise be playing at a specific public school. I don't want to use specific examples but I think you know what I am referring to.
