I knew this post would catch a lot of attention. As far as I know this is not true, but I wish it was. Can you imagine the money that this would generate. I know that hundreds of people would come from both Regions to witness this great game. It would generate great revenue. It would give us the opportunity to go to our local games on Friday and then the Smith County Superbowl on Saturday. It would also give Gordonsville and Smith County the oppurtunity to see other games on the Friday before. Would someone suggest this to the Coaches and Adminstrators of these two schools?

Nah...I'm sure it will be on Friday. The interest will be high enough already. It will be hot...there won't be enough seating as it is. Week 0 will gauge how much interest there will be outside of Smith County.

Who needs seating? 5 and 6 deep on the fence makes a great atmosphere for High School Football. Those needing a seat could arrive at 4:30 or 5:00. I think its a great idea. It would be no trouble to arrive early on a Saturday night.

Smith Co people wouldnt go for it. They would be too afraid it might generate a good gate that would go to the poor ole Gordonsville folks. That might help Gordonsville get enough money to start there own version of the SC giant hen house. On top of that, it would make it that much more embarrassing when they get beat by 2 TDs by little ole Gordonsville. Great idea, but it will never get off the ground. It would benefit Gordonsville way too much. Those big money SC folks will never let that happen.

Heck...Gordansville's gate for the year IS our game in most years. This year...should be no different.

Hey...I've got an idea. Why don't the Westmoland Big Birds play week 1 on Thursday or Saturday so you can come to our game on Friday? That would solve the problem for you. Nah...high school football is meant to be played on Fridays in the fall.

will never happen

Heres something thats not a rumor. The GV home side bleachers was knocked down. As of Last Thursday the crane struck the crumbling bleachers. Seems it was condemed anyway. Plenty of standing room 20 deep if you like. I am not kidding GV fans. Go look for yourself. Many thanks to Arnolds paving for donating the crane and Tiffs time to knock down the condemed bleachers.

Serious as the gas went up. I watched the first blow to the bands bleachers first. Then moved on to the other side. It got dark about half way through the main bleachers. If you knew what condition they were in you would not have sit on them. The blocks holding up the slabs you could crumble with a small rock and your hand. The top row of block on the back wall was already loose and you could push them out with your hand. We were blessed they didnt fall and hurt a lot of people. Like I said lots of standing room. Unless we get some new bleachers before the season starts. Now maybe we can get some support fixing the place up some. Its time to move out of the 50s. Time to raise some money. Maybe having to stand will loosen some purse strings. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
