DB vs. William Blount

The 4 Horsemen...wow. It was a year later that Fickert came to MHS and shot a bird at the fan section while he was back waiting to receive a kickoff.

He worked for me when all of that happened. I also had an MHS student who worked for me at that time. I had to do some creative scheduling over the next few days to keep them from fighting...

Go on, Papa,

I believe he fumbled that kickoff and a soph for Maryville named Greenwood? (#19) picked it up for a score.

Your memory is better than mine! I couldn't tell you much else about that game. I know there was one ridiculously hard hit between one of those horsemen coming through the middle of the line and one of Maryville's middle linebackers...maybe Pacifico.

I've tapped my Memories completely now and have also just realized that we're way off subject on this thread. Here in a few weeks let's start a great memories from the history of the MHS/WBHS series.

I can imagine that...do you remember 1999?

I think that was the year that both teams were undefeated and played at WB and it was the biggest crowd I'd ever seen at a high school football game until Red Bank and Gerald Riggs came to MHS a few years later.

It was also the game with the greatest play that I've ever seen in my life...David Sweetland intercepted an option pitch in mid-stride and went about 60 yards the other way....wow!

papa believe that was '97.

OK. You're right. This looks like a good year for the GOVS, finally. DB should've brought the band. Its gonna get ugly for the Tribecians.

That linebacker was Andrew Healy.

Explain yourself..."finally." 7 out of 8 years in the playoffs does not equal failure unless your Maryville.

You will be surprised how small DB's secondary is. When TnH backs got loose it looked like the rodeo was in town. Not only are the DBacks small but some of the LBs too. Sometimes small ones can hit, but not these, they look very weak. Tn H moved the ball better and they were a young team. The kick off WAS the back breaker for TnH. GC does not go to his bench and the Govs will wear down the tribe. Our punting will hurt us giving up field position. Kicker may save us some games this season, but not this time. If #2 is out, 35-10 the Govs.

That is not good news for DB fans then. I assumed the Tribe would just reload with some good, albeit, inexperienced players across the board. If that is indeed the case about your secondary then you won't want to hear that Meadows has installed a spread offense where they are running 3,4 & 5 wide receiver formations. They also have a big WR in #4 Brad Cochran (6'-3") who also has pretty good hands and speed. I know he got loose in our secondary a few times for some nice plays.

If Clark doesn't utilize his bench at least some, you better hope for rain cause between the heat and that physical Gov defense you will see the effects of both by the second half just like we did.

Sounds like it might just be a long year for all of Region 1 (We will find out about Bearden in a couple of weeks when they take on Farragut).

Its a Shame about the DB band. I was hoping to get to see them tomorrow night. Always enjoy their halftime shows.

I'm excited! Can't wait til tomorrow night. I don't get off work until 7:15 though so I'm hoping there is still a seat left somewhere in the stadium! Should be a good game!

I think you'll still be able to find a seat, might not be the best one in the house but a seat for yourself at least. What time do the gates open for fans?

yea, the 4 horseman! That's the year they went and got a picture with the guard helicopter I think. I will have to look into my old files for that info and get back to the board.

Not sure on this one yet, WB probably has the better team, but DB always finds ways to win. Should be exciting.

William Blount was impressive in their win at Sevier County, they are physical and may have an edge there. Both teams have excellent coaches. Rumor is DB is down, we shall see, I am sure that Graham Clark has something ready to go, you learn a lot between week 0 and week 1, I think WB will win, but look for DB to stay in the game and could win late if they get a break, kicking game could be the difference too, with probably the edge to DB there...this is a good game for DB, instead of playing one of those many Sullivan schools, it will toughen them for the Region and beyond, they seem to be suceptible to first round losses because of that Regions overall weakness. I think they will be there at the end, Bearden has to go to Kingsport and Sevier County is young....however in this one I say WB by 7.
