That was a whole bunch of garbage. You make yourself look stupid by saying. "I know I could never play football." If you know you can't play football, then don't insult it. You have no clue what football players go through during the spring and summer do you? Put on pads and go to spring practice, I'll be laughing when your getting beat up by every single hitting drill. And during the summer, try waking up at around 5 or 6 in the morning, and running 400's till you puke. I'm sure most every single football player will just laugh and be bored during "band camp." Marching Band is not a sport. It is a hobby, nothing else.

And yet, now that I've been out of high school for many years, the guys I went to school with sit around and relive their "glory days" of when they played football (but now can't run 10 feet without being out of breath), and I can still play an instrument as well, if not better, than I could in high school. And before you berate me for being a sissy and not playing football, I'm female, so don't go there. I still have killer calf muscles from marching all those years ago and taking care of myself now. Yes, marching band is a sport. Period.

Like I said, It's a hobby. All you did was provide game music for the student section. If you look in any yearbook, Marching Band is not in the "Sports Team" section. And yes, it is also not on ESPN. Which doesn't make it a sport. Your stupidity is simply laughable at best. BAND IS NOT A SPORT.

Why don't you go back to the football section and play with all the other "little boys" who can no longer walk straight from all their injuries (or their beer gut), or talk straight from all the head injuries and relive your glory days. If you weren't in the band, don't bother those who were. It's just jealousy that brings you to this forum.

lets think of it this way. if there was no football there would be no marching band. therefore not a sport. if marching is a sport, then being a guitarist also means you play a sport. wood carving would also be a sport. instrument making would be like the mega sport.

im by no means saying that being in the band doesnt take a lot of hard work. or being in the band makes you unathletic, but the being in the marching band is not a sport.

Jealousy of being in band? I'm proud that I played football. It taught me life lessons that I wont learn anywhere else. I don't have injuries or a beer gut. I'm 26 and work out regularly. I am in better shape than I ever was in high school. Don't insult football. My kids are going to play a sport called football, not a HOBBY called band.

OK so most of you guys think marching band is not a sport. Well imma speak for all the big 10 marching style schools. IT IS A SPORT and if you dont know what a big 10 marching school is watch drumline its mostly HBCU. But how would you say that and when i was in high school anybody could tell you we worked harder then anybody. And till this they they still do. They have pratice monday-wed from 2:45 untill 7pm and on thursdays 4-8 unless its heck week "Another big 10 marching band" and on thursday we will but there 4-untill we get it right and i know we stayed out there untill 10:30 one year. So you still say its not a sport???? And if you wondering what school that is PEARL-COHN IN NASHVILLE TN

    • Looks like South Pittsburg added some more talent!
    • So much talk about an investigation about student record manipulation and then everything has went silent. Has anyone heard how the investigation is going?
    • Basically what you're saying is schools can basically bully students around and get away with it because they are protected. I agree to a certain extent but when schools decisions to keep knuckleheads on staff starts costing kids careers and a college education there is a problem. Our school system last week had a teacher supposedly push a kid and the parents went to the law and the teacher is suspended. So I wouldn't say that they can just do what they want without liability. This case don't pass the smell test because the coach had already been fired before and she got fired after a year on the job. Sounds like the student was right in this case on the outside looking in because the coach gets fired after one year. How many coaches get fired after one year?? Not many.
    • Problem with DB football goes beyond coaching. Like Waco said. Thr band is the main focus of their community and school. They have the resources to be a championship level team. Guarantee Ballard or Witten could have them nationally relevant at some point but everyone down to peewee would have to buy in and at DB we all know that would never happen.
