Is the marching band a sport

im a band kid and i say high school marching band is a performing art. an intense one. DCI is definately in the sport category. its on its own level.

Marching band at the maximum level (hardly comparable to regular bands)

 

Drum Corps. Similar to band. Its a sport.

 

Most bands dont work hard enough to be considered a sport, but the best do.

that is the best vid ever! i watched the finals on espn but i must havge been in the bathroom for that! lol it is the perfect example of how corps is a SPORT!

 

the tenor kid had some of the same stats as someone running a marathon... i suppose runners arent athlets though.

Having a good deal of knowledge regarding DCI I can see how that may be considered "sport" by some. DCI is the absolute pinnacle of band/color guard competition. If this were a basketball conversation we'd be talking about the NBA. That's how good some of these guys are at what they and how hard they work. Even then, there are large contracts and honestly, people pay good money to compete. I have respect for that much. I'll never be able to consider band ( at least anything below DCI) a sport but that's just my two( hopefully final) cents on the matter

I don't think of marching band as a sport. It's more of a performing art that requires discipline and practicing.

So your saying that going around blowing a piece of metal is a sport well just keep on thinking that cause thats the furthest thing from a sport!

Well at least you can feel like an athlete because band really isnt a sport but you can keep thinking that you are.
