Quite a few Tennessee players are and have participated in post season NCAA and NAIA conference play this year. Most know that the NCAA tournament play is still ongoing but the NAIA title game was last evening in Daytona, Florida. Congratulations to 3 Tennessee teams and the cumulative total of 25 young Tennessee women on these teams that had the opportunity to experience a national event. I was impressed that out of the 20 teams that advanced to NAIA nationals there were in fact 3 Tennessee teams that won their respective Regional titles and competed nationally. The teams were King, Lee and Martin Methodist.

Martin Methodist RedHawks were seeded #5 but won securing their 2nd National Championship Title in 3 years. Lee seeding #1 had an equally impressive season commanding a number one ranking 6 weeks running. It may have been Kings 1st appearance seeding #12 at nationals but they well represented Tennessee with players from many areas of the state.

Congratulations to Bayor graduates Paige Lanter and Mary Shelton Bryant on being named to this All-Tournament Team. The following I cut and pasted from Baylor's website.

Baylor Grads Named All-Tournament

Posted September 8

Two former Baylor soccer players were named to the All-Tournament Team at the 2008 Adidas Gamecock Classic at Jacksonville State University this past Saturday.

Paige Lanter '06 and Mary Shelton Bryant '08 led the Samford Bulldogs to a second place finish to Arkansas at the tournament. According to samfordsports.cstv.com, "Bryant and Lanter were each awarded with all-tournament honors for their hard work on the defensive end of the field. Both players were integral factors in the Bulldogs' back line that only allowed one goal in 197:30 minutes of action in the two-day tournament."

Congratulations to 24 Tennessee women on 4 teams (3 of which are Tennessee teams, Lee University, Martin Methodist College and King College) that are competing in the first round of the 25th Annual 2008 NAIA Women??™s Soccer National Championships. All four colleges won their respective conferences to qualify for the National play-offs. A list of these young women follows by University. If anyone is interested in following the results, the Championship brackets can be found at: http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/naia/s...08WSBracket.pdf

There are 223 NAIA Universities nationally. Thirty of the teams (26 conference winners and 4 at large bids) will compete in the 1st opening rounds held this year at the highest seeds location on November 22. Then the 15 winners travel to Daytona to the host Embry Riddle University for second round, quarterfinals, semifinals and the National Championship from December 1-6th. All games played at Daytona will be broadcast via live video and audio-streaming at: http://www.watchnaia.com/liveEvents/liveEvents.dbml?db_oem_id=5901

Lee University 20-1-0 ranked #2 nationally

NAIA National Championship Appearances 5th (5th straight) NAIA Playoff Record 7-3-1 0 Championships Titles

For the fifth straight year, the Lee University women??™s soccer team is the champion of the Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament. During 08 Lee??™s only loss came from non conference #1 ranked Lindsey Wilson (KY). Lee goes into the 1st round of Nationals with a 14 game winning streak. Quite a rivalry has developed between Lee and Martin Methodist. Lee has been victorious during regular non conference season play against Martin Methodist defeating the Redhawks for the first time in 2007 and again this year in 2008 in regular non conference season play. However in 2005 championship play, Lee advanced to the National Championship match but lost to Martin Methodist. In 2006 Lee was defeated by Martin Methodist in the National quarterfinals. In 2007 Lee played a National semifinal match and once again was unsuccessful in their bid to defeat Martin Methodist.

After claiming the National Title two of the last three years in 2005 and 2007, Martin Methodist is undefeated in TranSouth Conference play for the last five years and have now won 33 straight TranSouth Conference matches. The RedHawks have outscored TSAC opponents 257 to 6 in 5 years and did not allow a TranSouth opponent to score against them througout the 2008 season. Martin Methodist??™s only loss, breaking a 24 game winning streak, came from #2 ranked Lee. However ironically, #3 ranked Martin Methodist handed #1 ranked Lindsey Wilson (KY) their only loss for 2008. The RedHawks will enter their 1st round Nationals match with a streak of 10 consecutive shutouts while only allowing three goals all season.

In 2007 King made their 1st ever appearance in the national playoffs, showed well in their 1st round debue but drew Martin Methodist and were deafeated by the Redhawks, the team that went on to became the 2007 national champions.
