This year should be a very exciting year here in the Upper Cumberland for Ladies basketball. There are two teams that are clear favorites to be playing for the Gold this year from this area and those are ofcourse Jackson Co. and Clarkrange. There are also some really good teams like Clay Co., RBS and Monterey in the district so it should be exciting. What about the rest of the state? Who are the favorites to win the other districts and why?

Hey Devil!! Gotta love my Lady Rockets chances as we return all starters and they are Seniors this year (whoops except for 1.... sorry Summer /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" /> )..... loaded with talent and desire!!! I am about frothing at the mouth waiting for Clarkrange to play us on the 13th of Nov. I also believe that some of the toughest competition will again come out of the Upper Cumberland area, and personally feel Jackson County will have the edge up there. Won't be long now..... /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

Lake Co has 4 starters back from last years sub-state team..Lake Co is the only team that beat the State Champion Gleason Lady Bulldogs..So I believe they would be a contender..I look for Greenfield and Bradford to be loaded as well..Greenfield has several starters back as well and I believe their middle school teams have been undefeated the past two or three years and I believe Bradford has everyone back as well..And Trenton,South Fulton and Gleason and Union City etc...any of the teams in our district could make it to the Boro..With 10 teams in our district and as tough as it is every year..whoever makes it out ..I would like their chances..

Mrbigster,

Lake County is the team to beat in our region this year. They would have done well at the state tournament last year if they had made it. In fact they would have beat Jackson County and Clark Range last year, no doubt! But with Jackson Countys new recruits, I doubt anyone but Forrest or Collinwood can hang with them.

As for Greenfield, we lost all of our starters and our freshmen didnt get much experience last year. We are probably a year away from being a good team although we could surprise some people this year.

Clarkrange graduated one from last years team. Her younger sister, who sat out last season with an ACL injury, is back in the rotation.

    • Harriman was better than what I anticipated. They had good skill guys and a QB that’s gonna make a lot of teams look silly. They had some silly pre snap penalties but it’s just spring and I guess that’s expected.    Oneida looks the part. They are big upfront and got a stable of backs that’s gonna carry them this year. They have a few playmakers at receiver also. They have a new receiver that has only played basketball till this year and he is very athletic. The question is can we find a QB to consistently get them the ball. They played 2-3 kids there and none looked great but they didn’t look awful either. The  defense is gonna be tough again but it’s very early and a lot can change between now and the fall.     It was good just to get out and watch some ball. I don’t know if Oneida has the team to win the region this year but just what I saw tonight I think they may be in the conversation come November.
