Back to the topic, fellow Charger fans. Hope there is a big homecomimg crowd at Charger stadium Friday night. The Yellowjackets will be no push-over for the Chargers. While not having the best record, Coach Pickett and his Jackets will challenge the Warhorses.

I have been going to watch Central for over 30yrs. But lately all you hear and read is about Central and how good they are as well as their coaches, but I bet none of you young folks that get on hear remember the Sock Hill bunch. The best coaches Central ever had or ever will have is Coach Rich and Coach Darty. If you young kids could have played for them you woudn't be blowing your own horn and you sure wouldn't be doing drugs. These coaches coached football like it should be, hard nosed and they didn't tolerate any crap from the players and they sure wouldn't want all of our fans on hear blowing us up. Remember you take one game at a time and you respect everyone. I wonder why we have a bad name when it comes to sportsmanship and having respect toward other teams. Coaches like this is what you young kids need as well as a few adults on here. Smokey04 and all you other supposed fans you need to quit blowing smoke and the coaches. Let the kids prove what they can do on the field playing not runnin their mouths. Every game I have been too players are in the other teams face mouthing after every play that is not the way the game should be played and we would have been kicked off the team if we had done that when we were playing or would have never of seen any playing time. The coaches at Central have a long way to go before they could ever fill those coaches shoes!

Good Luck and Go Big Blue

You may or may not be accurate in your recollections. No one will ever really know and memories fade or get embellished with age. Doesn't matter , new century with different challenges for today's coaches. You had your day in the sun, I am sure some guy in the stands who you thought was a mindless geezer back then no doubt had stories to tell about him and his peers playing football with no helmets in briar patches when the men were really men. Let ths generation enjoy their success. Somthing is clicking at Central, they are a whole lot better than they have been.

Enjoy the moment.

i think grundy will spoil there homecoming and win 28 21 and central will lose the next three games grundy polk horward thats pretty tough

really don't think that will happen..too many weapons on offense and a stingy defense. i know it was against tellico, but 7 different chargers scored touchdowns last friday! you can't key on one guy, because when you do the other 6 hurt ya! the only team i see beating central in the regular season is central. no mistakes, no losses! GO CHARGERS

I agree maj. We all had our stories, and I am sure that some of those teams oldcharger played on has some skeletons in the closet, and thats o.k. that is what it is all about. I don't like the taughting and some of the things that come along with todays game, but that is just what these kids see on TV everyday. A coach did not have to deal with parents back then either, most parents understood that their place was not to make sure their child was the star, but rather just a piece to a puzzle that is called a team. Instead of being upset about the way these kids are, get involved. The little leagues need good people that have your enthusiam oldcharger. Help make these kids good people.

I'll agree that Coach Rich was a good coach, and he had some good players. But I'll have to disagree with the part where they didn't disrespect other teams. I can remember when Coach Rich himself walked side by side down the field arguing with a ref as the ref kept throwing flags on him. Central started on about the other teams 20 yard line, and by the time that Coach Rich ended his tirade, they were backed up to their own 20. That was at Rockwood, some 30 years ago. Course, not many folks would remember this, but he had a couple pretty good backs with the names Jordan and Jackson. Coincidence? /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

If you don't know then don't comment. As I stated in another thread some of you folks don't even respect your own people. If they don't pat and rub each other on the back and talk about the trip to Murfreesboro and how bad you all are going to beat everyone then they are considered a "mindless geezer". As for something clicking at Central I think that its mostly the fans gums your hearing.

What is really a shame is that the comments of just a few Charger fans causes the rest of us to be labeled as "all those disrespectful fans" when in reality MOST Charger fans are very respectful of our opponents and their fans. I know people at most every school Central plays and the ones I talked to haven't had a problem with our fans at all. This board, just like the DPA sound off page lets people hide behind anonimity and make rash statements just to get a rise out of someone just for entertainment.

I agree and I hope you know I am not saying all of Central fans are this way, I know alot of great people from Etowah and Englewood. I have said the same about some Polk fans on here in the past, a few bad ones and everyone has a bad name. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
