What a great night of basketball tonight at MLK for the 9AA finals.

Leah McAllister was very impressive in Ezell's victory with 31 points, while hitting 13 of 14 from the free throw line. Although East took the lead by 5 in the 3rd quarter, Ezell just kept battling. #24 hit huge 3's to get Ezell going in the 4th quarter.

East Literature....wow! I saw them play early this season and you could tell they had some raw talent, but that talent isn't so raw anymore. They are well coached and never give up. If you had never seen the two teams play, there is no way you would have known they were the #7 seed playing the #1 seed.

I believe both of these teams should make noise in the region tournament.

Good Luck!

Great games in the 9AA District tournament! McAlister was tough in the 4th quarter for EH when she posted up on the inside. This created a big match-up problem for East that they didn't adjust for very well. I agree that East has lots of potential to get better over the next two years. How will EH be next year after losing McAlister? It looked like they have lots of other talent as well but I couldn't tell who the next star would be.

The Hume Fogg / CPA consolation game was also a great game to watch. Hume Fogg was down by 12 in the 3rd quarter but came back to win it by 2 in the last minute with Bagwell making huge free throws down the stretch. Hume Fogg's man-to-man defense in the 4th quater shut down the CPA's 3s and denied the ball to the CPA post, which allowed HF to catch up.

Also, I was looking at the district tournament bracket, and all eight games ended up being a match-up of a public versus a private schools. What are the chances of that? It's great to see the pariety in the league this year -- of these 8 games, the record ended up being an even 4-4 for public and private.

Good luck to all in the Region games!

Bagwell Hume Fogg

Mitchell CPA

Brabson East Literature

Eakes Ezell

Davis Ezell

MVP McAllister, Ezell

Numbers might be just a bit off:

Although Kara Davis did end up with 43 tp in the tournament, she was injured early in the game against east with a knee problem and although she played the second half, she did not score her average. She ended up with 5. The pick in her place was Brandy Earps, Brandy has played most of this season in a role that made her match up with the bests post players on every team. She has done exceedingly well defending and rebounding. In most cases shutting down the posts, (look at her games against Lipscomb and Hillsboro) She is a great shooter, rebounder and defender and got recognized as all District Tournament last night at MLK. It is great when a player who plays great D, then scores a little is noticed by the other coaches. Congratulations to all the other girls!
