zonepirate
If they had been beating these teams by 28 or 21 then I might argue that they are really a 6-4 team with a weak schedule, but they have been beating these teams like drums. Just absolutely destroying most of their schedule. The only thing I could forsee being a problem is what I will call the Temple/Gordonsville complex, and that is that last years team seemed to quite when it got down. To be honest though I don't know if any team is going to be able to get a big enough lead on south pitt for that to kick in, and Zone says that the leaders have finally stepped up for this team. I don't think we have a good gage of how good either team is because it is hard to tell if our regions are up or down this year (at least until tomorrow). In non-region play TC lost to a good Smith Co team but beat 3A team Macon Co and LA. The only thing about MC and LA is that they are 2-8 and 1-9 so they are not very good this year. You look at G'ville, FCS and Watertown's non-region games and there is nothing clear about those wins/loses either. In non-region play SP beat 3 -2A teams... a 6-4 Tyner, a 4-6 Boyd and a 5-5 Jasper. Tyner and Boyd's records are a little deceiving because of the schedule they play.
Al Capone
ARRRRRRRRRRRR matey....Me thinks you should calm down with the talk of the 2nd best Pirate Team savvy ... Strong words me thinks... They have proved nothing yet except they can beat a average Tyner team.... 2nd fastest Pirate...Maybe, but thats a little premature to name them the 2nd best of all time....Everyone said the 98 team was the best team EVER and they flopped in 4th round savvy...Moore, Startchky,Pickett, and the little white boy... I dont think that team was the 2nd best savvy...I cant see this team beating the 98 team...So lets hope they dont slip, and maybe then, maybe we can compare to the great teams the al mighty Pirates have had.... ARRRRRRRRRRRRRR matey....Me thinks not. Savvy. Im tempted to give a brief explanation of why i feel like i do but ill resist that urge to everyones relief. Ive seen many decades of Pirate football and im sticking with my opinion. 2nd best team ever and until they prove me wrong ill continue to state it. Golds the Goal and one month from tomorrow night well all be sailing away to the 1A state championship game together. Happy sailing, whoever you are. purplegoldfan
Sorry crozman but you're right TC was one heck of a ballplayer but unfortunately he graduated in 98. Eli Sanders was the qb when we went to South Pitt in 99. He was also one heck of a ballplayer. He went on to play four years at the Naval Academy. I think he was there starting strong safety for at least 2 years. That 99 SP team was awesome! There 98 team was very good to but TC Payne took over that game in the second half and sealed it up for us. T.C. graduated in May of 99, but his last football season was the 98 season. Green_Acres
I have seen the Monterey, Watertown, FC and G'ville games. There were a lot of mistakes by both sides in all 4 games Another interesting fact for you. The Pirates won the Tyner game with a 4 point margin of victory. 2 other games, the 1st and 3rd, were 28 and 35 points. The other 7 games were by 40 to 63 points. From what I remember reading the scores in the Saturday paper after that Tyner game, South Pittsburg could have blown that one open also. Is that correct? Green_Acres
Unfortunate that this is necessary, but it is the reality of the world we live in, and the internet in particular. No reflection on Legend, of course, just society in general. I have personally seen some folks do some bad things on the web, and this board as well ( Plus Boards). I spend quite a bit of time on there as well as on the HS football threads. Caution is the key word on the 'net. Especially with all of "Legend's" talk about bending over and wrestling, I would be very careful around him /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
svcfan
From what I remember reading the scores in the Saturday paper after that Tyner game, South Pittsburg could have blown that one open also. Is that correct? Yes, they could have but Tyner got some breaks in the 4th quarter that helped them. That was a great game there was definitely hard hits and great display of atheleticism for both teams. South Pittsburg was up 19-7 at one point and then 19-13 then SP scored and made it 25-13 before Tyner's late score and then our fumble gave them life very late in the game for us to force a turnover with just a few seconds to go and seal the 25-21 victory. Once again a great game.

H 2 0
The Pirates seem to be focused and on a mission this year to be #1. I believe the Pirates win this one by a couple of TDs
THE KING LEON
T.C. graduated in May of 99, but his last football season was the 98 season. Isn't #21 on this years Yellow Jacket team T.C Payne's little brother? I thought someone told me that.
NOT PRETENTIOUS
I don't think we have a good gage of how good either team is because it is hard to tell if our regions are up or down this year (at least until tomorrow). Tyner and Boyd's records are a little deceiving because of the schedule they play. I know that SP has not really been challange in the region this year, but the gage I would look at this year is that SP went in to every game ready to play. This year unlike last year SP did not take any game for granted, that is a sign of this teams maturity. SP had the talent to win the state last year. I think at the Temple game last year after SP marched down the field and scored that first touchdown SP thought it was going to be just another game. I think SP let down after that and never could recover emotionally and in the playoff game they had lost there confidence because of that game with Temple. Zone I think that experience last year in the Temple game has made this years team better and more poised to win this years state championship. It also doesn't hurt that SP's defense is much better this year. SP's defense was fast last year but this year they are fast and disciplined.
