anyways, the first district showdown for the Rebels and Pioneers is right around the corner. Can't wait!!! Should be a great game in all honestly, whichever way it goes. It could very easily come down to who has the ball last. like a fellow Rebel faithful would say, "get'cha popcorn ready!!!" /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />

The Rebs came away with a big road win against Gibson County but now have to turn their attention to Milan as they come into Troy Tuesday nite....The Rebs also travel to Munford on Friday for their rematch with the Cougars and then travel up to Clinton,Ky Saturday to play Hickman County.....Would be good to get these three winnable games and hit the 9 win mark and go 2-0 in the district...

Rebels were picked early on by some others to be cellar dwellers again. At 7-2, 2-0 in the district, looks like the Rebels are crawling back up. It's a tough district to play in, but the Rebs are on the right track. Keep climbing guys! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

Well the Rebels great start got derailed a little tonite in a loss at Munford 61-50....

Another fourth quarter meltdown cost the Rebels a chance to get win #8.....

OC had made a good comeback in the third quarter after struggling in the first half and trailing 31-24 at half...OC outscored the Cougars 19-9 in the third quarter to go up 43-40 entering the 4th quarter...After scoring the first 3 points of the 4th to go up 46-40 the Rebels shut down and the Cougars outscored them 18-0 to go up 58-46..The Rebels were awful at the charity stripe going 4-16 for the game...

Cory Gibson led the Rebels in scoring with 21 points followed by Nick Gilliam with 13 and Justin Owens added 11...

The Rebels play Saturday night(weather permitting)in Clinton,Ky against the Hickman Co Falcons in a boys only contest...

i was listening to this game and it just seemed like they weren't clicking the first half. Surprisingly they came out firing on all cylinders the third quarter and with their normal intensity. Just seemed like in the third quarter that they got away from what got them back into the game. The Cougars killed them from 12 ft and in with little jumpshots and/or putbacks. Gibson stepped up big alongside Owens and Gilliam, but it just wasn't enough in the end.

The Rebels did get back on track Saturday night with a beatdown of Hickman County, KY. The score was in no way indicative of the game. I believe the Rebels were up by 20 or more when the B team was placed in the game. IMO, I don't have any clue what to take out of this weekend of basketball for OC.On one hand they look flat with only one or two kids making any impact. On the other hand you have Saturday night where four or five players all score double digits and their defense is more ferocious and they blow teams outta the gym. Its a mindboggling thought at times. All in all, I think you take a postive from this week going 2 and 1. It might not be a perfect week, but the important thing is that they didn't lose that district game. Like I've always thought, it's better to lose now than lose in February. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

Excellent Job by the OC to rebound with a win in Clinton,KY over Hicman Co. on Saturday night. Very balanced scoring attack with 5 in double digits and another player two points shy of making it six players in double digits.

The victory is the Rebels 8th on the season which ties their win total from all of last season- and they did it this time by mid-December. Again hats off to the coaching staff as Coach Kail has his system in place is turning things around in Rebel Country /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> Congrats to the Rebel JV Boys squad for winning their game as well.

OC will enjoy a week and half off for Mid-Terms and Christams break before getting back into action on Dec.27th at the Huntingdon Point Guard Christmas Classic as they play McKenzie Thursday evening and will return to action on Saturday with a scheduled 6:30 contest against Collinwood. Lady Rebels will also play in the classic as well on Thursday and Saturday..

Best of luck Rebels the rest of the way and continue to improve /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

  • 2 weeks later...

Obion Central enters play in The Huntingdon Point Guard Classic with a game against the McKenzie Rebels @ 5PM today...

OC led after one quarter 10-8...OC scored the first five points of the game and were on their way to a 7 point lead but Nick Gilliam missed a dunk and that seemed to spark McKenzie as they scored the games next 8 points..OC rebounded though to again score 5 straight to take the 2 point lead heading into the second quarter....

OC shook the rust off a 12 day lay-off as they continued their 5 point run to end the first quarter to score the first 7 points of the quarter to go on a 12 point run....OC then exploded from a 17-9 lead to go up 41-16 at the half with what was probably the best 8 minutes of the season....

Nick Gilliam and Brandon Smith lead the Rebels with 10 points apiece followed by Cory Gibson with 9 points....

Thanks for the recap Purple & Gold- Nice Job /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> OC did a nice job, especially in the 3rd quarter of being patient

and attacking the half court zone defense of McKenzie with outstanding ball movement and excellent shot selection.

The Rebels of McKenzie only dressed eight players for the game as some of the guys(Carr and Payne) are still just 3 weeks or so of playing basketball after advancing to the state title game in football.

All in all a good win for the Rebels of OC who showed very little signs of rust after an almost 2 week layoff.

Collinwood at 6:30 on Saturday night will play the OC at the Huntingdon Point Guard Classic -- Should be a fun game to watch /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />
