riverrat
I have took the unpopular or popular step to remove all privates from division I and reclassify everyone according to the 2006 numbers. I kept the 5 classifications. 1A, 2A, & 3A all have 55 teams. 4A & 5A have 56 each. I MAY have left out some teams if I did let me know and I will insert where appropriate. Division II is under 300 of IIA and over 300 for IIAA. I kept the doubled enrollment for schools who admit giving financial aid. They break down 30 and 23. Just food for thought. macdaddy
Riverrat, In Clarksville Tennessee there will be a new school opening up then called West Creek. Northeast is likely to drop from 5A to 4A and West Creek added to 4A. Also, nobody can be sure of what the numbers will be. I think Clarksville and Rossview are very close to 5A numbers as they exist right now. So all of this on your part is purely speculation. TDCman
Can you put the teams in regions for us. That will be interesting.
MrPeabody
I think the schools you list as having doubled enrollment is not because they give financial aid, but because they are single sex.

You are probably right about MBA, but isn't BA coed? You are right though, I forgot about the single sex schools.
riverrat
I'll go on record to say that if those are the numbers used and maryville is within 10 kids of the cut-off, THEY WILL BE 4A. The most recent numbers I found were 1416 on School Matters.

MrPeabody
You are probably right about MBA, but isn't BA coed? You are right though, I forgot about the single sex schools. BA is co-ed, as is Ensworth. Both chose to "play up" in a higher enrollment classification. The logic of doubling single sex schools (and this applies to Harpeth Hall and GPS, for example) is that the school has a larger pool of students to draw from than an equal sized co-ed school: in a 500 student co-ed school it would be expected that roughly 250 would be of the opposite sex, but in a single sex institution all 500 would be of one gender, hence a greater population of potential athletes to draw upon. Am I correct in this assesment?
itzme
If they removed all private schools, and kept 5 classes for football, that would be a major joke. Even less meaningful than it is today. It's also unlikely that any private school would remain a TSSAA member.
TDCman
Everything that I'm hearing is that all privates will be split out for 2009. That will certainly change the landscape.
mickeyryan
I think that we should have 277 classes then everyone is a champion.
LSMFT
I heard the only reason Maryville isn't 5A now is because some schools in Franklin/Williams Co. moved to 5A and those numbers keep Maryville down.
