What a game! This was tournamnet atmosphere. Most teams would kill to be able to play in front of a crowd of 2500 people in a high school gym. I think these two, Milan and Gibson County will battle it out for first place in the district this year. Gibson County will be good this year and with Butler and Griffin only sophmores...who knows waht will happen in the future. They definiatley have the best coaching staff in the state. Go Gibson County.

It will be Obion Central and Gibson County.....OC already beat down Milan 71-47 this season....

Gibson County is a fine team,we'll see how they do at Obion Central...We'll see if they can beat OC at full strength...At GC,J. Roney went out in the third qtr with OC leading....GC beat the Lady Rebels with her out of the game....Not saying OC would have won the game, but it wouldn't have been the 16 point difference it was...Roney does make a difference..She's an All-State player and a Miss Basketball Finalist...

You are right about coaching staff though....GC is loaded there...

Purple, I know Roney makes a bit of a difference, but I don't think she would've scored 16 more points in the third and fourth quarter. Coach McMillan would've made sure of that.

Don't forget Jeniqua Jennings is only a Junior this year also, gcfan! The future looks bright IMO. Too bad Medina is getting that high school built. If you combined this years Jr. Lady Pioneers coached by Paige McMillan and The Lady Hornets of Medina coached by Adam Vaughan they would have an AWESOME future ahead at Gibson Co. However, I think Gibson Co. will be just fine as we will most likely drop down to 1A when Medina's High School is finished.

This year I truly do believe the gold will come to either Gibson Co., Obion Co., or Milan. I believe two schools from 13AA will represent in the state tournaments. North Side seems to be doing quite well this year but they do not have the Seqouia Clifft or the Gwen Delk on this years team. I'm not looking past the region tournaments, but barring any major upsets I do believe 2 teams from our District will be at the 'boro! Good Luck

Thx GC Yea I knew Gc had beaten OC this year. What I am saying is OC will still have to be beaten again, for Milan or GC to have any shot at a district title. I think you will agree. Poston got her 15 points and that is about it. She is not focused on doing what it takes to win. She has had and continues to show she is playing her senior year to put on a show. If she would focus and play to her ability, Milan would be hard to beat. Hopefully after embarrassing herself in front of the whole county, she will have a better attitude and get the eye of the tiger back.

As far as state this year, if Hillcrest is the best Memphis has to offer, the boro comes down to GC, OC, Milan & N Side, 2 of the 4 will make it.

Next year GC wins the state.

Overall I don't think Milan or OC or N Side is as good as they were last year. Without seeing Middle and East TN play, it would be hard to say where 13AA & NS rate, but all 4 would be in the top dozen or so, I would think.

I agree that OC will have to be beat again. Milan played better than I thought they would last night. Sarah Hamm only had 9 points but her shots came at crucial points during the game. I do agree that Poston does try to put on a show more than helping her team out. IMO I believe Gray could play at the collegiate level. She is very athletic and has great handles with the ball! All I've heard about for North Side this year is Lavanda Ross. That team has only lost like 1 or 2 games so they are moreless "flying under the radar". I was looking at teams from East TN's schedules and scores the other night. Livingston is doing their thing as usual and Upperman looks to be down a little. I'm not real sure if there are any other teams that are playing well that we haven't heard about or it's the same with Livingston, Upperman etc..

GC, As of right now, it is looking like my 8th graders are going to be Pioneers for 4 years. Last I heard that is what is going to happen. Don't know if it 100% for sure though. Guess we will see.

As for the game, I want to 2nd the atmosphere comment. I came a little late and had to park at the horse barn out back and was amazed at the amount of people and also at the participation and enthusiasm of the crowd. Can't imagine what a district or region championship game between these two would look like. (Note to all Obion fans, not a prediction, just saying it would be an even better atmosphere.)

Gibson Co played very well in the first 6 minutes of the 1st Quarter and then the last 4 minutes of the 2nd I thought they played a little silly at times, taking shots out of the rhythm of the offense, not playing very good in the half court defense. The second half was solely who could score in the half court as Milan had no trouble at all with GC's press and Milan was in a 1-3-1 most of the time. Great finish with Griffin making a good move to put GC ahead and then Milan having two shots in the last 7 seconds. I had the last one from Gray going down for the win, but I lost that bet. Glad I did too.

I am sure that Coach Volbert told his girls the same thing that Coach McMillan told his girls after the game. That one had no effect on their season or district. Friday should be better since this time it matters.

Awesome stuff! I figured since they were going to have the high school up in 2008 that it'd be ready to go but it'll be even better if McMillan get's the Medina girls at Gibson Co. You have a great team going there as does Paige at Yorkville/Spring Hill....Just think what Kevin McMillan can do with them once they get to the high school!

The high school isn't going to open until fall of 2009 so they will go to GC next year as freshman and from what I hear will stay unless something changes. I have been to a couple of practices where Coach McMillan has had them all together and it is really exciting to see what could be great team in 3-4 years.

And also the Jr. and Sr. leadership from Jeniqua Jennings, Heather Butler, and Heather Griffin! We also have another Pate in the Sophomore year in #44 Katie Pate (Jennalee's sister). Not too bad for a look at the future IMHO. But for this year I hope we can go to state and make it through the first and second round and bring home some gold!

The Lady Rebels of Obion Central shot the ball extremely well in a pair of wins over Henry Co. and Collinwood at the Point Guard Classic and Huntingdon this past weekend /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" /> They've also turned things up a notch on the defensive end and seem to stay consistent with their 7 player rotation /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />

Should be an interesting matchup to start the 2nd half of the season when Westview comes to Central Station this Friday evening. Since taking over at OC, Suiter is 3-8 vs. his Alma mater..

Rumors are that some slight "renovations" have taken place at the 2nd year facility at OC AKA "Central Station" since the last game vs. Milan in Mid-December so things should be POPPIN when these two district rivals face off --

Getcha POPCORN READY!!! /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />

Hey JV do an edit, Coach Volbert coaches the girls.

NSide has Ross , but hey have 3 or 4 big girls inside and a young, but a very raw, talented, very athletic point guard. The 3 big girls are very physical and bury people inside. GC would beat NS, becasue of the press. NSide is suspect against a press. The loss of the Willimas girl was devastating in that aspect of the game. And here we go again, if Poston coms to play, no one from NS can match up with her. OC wins by being more consistent in every aspect of the game. Fussell may be the best player in the state next year. She is playing the best in the west right now.

Gray is going the Junior college route. She did not try in class the first 2 years of high school and now it has cost her an up front 4 year deal. She is doing much better now.

    • I've always been a football fan first and then if you have a band that's awesome. No question that DB has one of the best bands in the country and the whole region should attend at least one DB game just to see their band. I don't know if Nick Saban could come to Kingsport and build a football program that could match the Dobyns Bennett band's success. That said,as mentioned before, a couple of things would have to change in order for the Tribe to just win a state championship on the field.Besides a program that starts from the peewee teams and goes all the way to J Fred with all coaches and weight training { in time }on the same page. Sometimes it also takes a little luck like the 1998 Vols .There are a lot of great athletes at a lot of big schools around the state and just because you want something doesn't mean your going to build a program like Alcoa has. Yes,start at the bottom and have guys that are quality coaches teaching at every level is 100% the first step. Parents can make it a lot easier by getting their young athletes into an early start with conditioning and weights as well when they are old enough to lift.If your son is a man in the weight room before he gets to DB , then it won't take a "Dobbs" coach to make him competitive against other schools athletes when it comes to strength.

    • A complete cultural change happened at Greeneville and the administration and community opened up their checkbooks.  What a lot of people don't know is Ballard was Zeller's OC for many years and stopped coaching for two years because Zeller and Ballard didn't see eye to eye on some things.  Zeller lead Greeneville to it's first ever Semi Final appearance in 2000 and lost 28-12 at Maryville and had them in the Quarter Finals in 2002 and 2003.  Z was a great coach but lost some control when it came to making workouts mandatory. (He learned from that Mistake and it was at LC when i coached with him.).  Z was let go going into my Senior Year and was replaced by Steve McCurry who was the one that turned the program around.  Steve had won a 4a state championship at AC Reynolds in Asheville and made the administration completely redo the weight room with new equipment, had a football period at the end of the school day to lift, started devil camp, and brought in coaches like Danny Bentley (Still the OL coach), Ballard as the OC, Cody Baugh (QB coach and still there), and even Spradlen who is Greeneville's head coach now as the DB's Coach.  McCurry only coached for two seasons at Greeneville and took a team that had a losing record the year before and finished my Senior Year making it to the Quarters and having a 10-3 record and then followed it up with a Semi Final appearance the next year with an 11-3 record and back to back conference championships.  Loved McCurry to death but the recession hit and the story i heard was he was still buying new equipment for the team that the Principal didn't authorize and his response was "I don't answer to you and only to Niswonger and Bewley" (Two huge donors).  That was it for him and they Promoted Ballard shortly after that.   Greeneville had always been relevant ever since the the late 70's under Coach Fred Sorrell's.  Since Sorrell's took over in 1977 Greeneville overall winning percentage is over 76%.  The biggest reason people might not have thought Greeneville was "Good" until Ballard was Greeneville always played up Classification wise and could never get over the hump. (When there were 3 classifications we played 3a, when it went to 5 we played 4a).  Greeneville is the largest its ever been with 953 students and where playing teams 2 or 3 times there size back in the day (I had a little over 800 kids in the school when i graduated in 2008).  Other teams always would know they would be sore after a game but depth took over and never won a Championship until Greeneville played in the classification the TSSAA actually assigned them. You had names like Dustin Moore (1993 Mr Football for 3a and who Phillip Fulmer said was one of the greatest athletes he ever recruited), James "Mud Turtle" Mayes, Brigham Lyons, Byron Gillespie, Frankie Debusk (National Champion Qb at Furman with GQ), Jasmine Lowery, Cody Baugh, The Greenway Brothers, Joe Watson (Furman), etc.  Now the cultural is from the Pee Wee league up and you grow up as a young kid wanting to wear the Greene and White.  Here is a really good link when it comes to anything Greeneville Football related. https://greenevillefootball.com/   I also don't coach anymore.  Z told me i was to smart with how the school systems are ran these days and ended up going into real estate in Knoxville which has been a great decision for my life.
    • Yes, they will. I'm wondering what kinds of strides Sale Creek will make heading into the second season under Coach Fitz.
