If they are going to wear them at the next level, get used to them now. Baseball has been doing it for years. By this level they are playing regulation distances, why not plaqy by as many of the same rules as we can to get our girls better prepared for the next level.

Over 90% +- dont ever play at the "next " level. They never play past high school.

If you dont want to play with the big girls, play rec ball. If not ,get over it. Real girls wear steel. If your not gonna play to move up. Then go in standing up. Half speed, Just like they do in summer ball. Theses girls can play. If you can't hang with the big dogs, Well ya know.

stop your crying about the stupid steel cleats. if the boys can wear them and not get hurt than the girls can too.

ASA summer ball does not allow metal cleats. They didnt last summer and have already voted not to wear them next summer. Why is that?????? It isnt because they feel the metal cleats are safer!!

Actually, USFA, ASA, AFA, USSSA, and Triple crown and all other girls softball organizations do not allow now and will not allow next summer girls to wear metal spikes. The reason is that the medical doctors do not support the wearing of metal in middle or high school deeming them as dangerous. There are studies that have found female athletes to be far more susceptible to twisting injuries than their male counterparts. Not because girls are "inferior", but there are certain physical attributes that are just facts of nature- thinner ligaments, less muscular support and a greater angle between the femur and tibia which creates more torque in the joints. Most of these injuries were of the "plant and turn" variety, where the player's foot plants in the turf and the leg continues to twist around.

If High school girls wear cleats that provide more "bite", might that lead to more cases of these "plant and turn" type injuries? Also it is for this very reason three states have already banned them for use in middle and high school softball.

Here's a post I can support. Use this one instead of showing the girl's leg with 27 stitches in it where she laid her leg down in front of the bag and miraculously got spiked! It's been proven that girls are more susceptible to ACL injuries for the reasons stated. If metal cleats enhance that in any way, then I don't have a problem with girl's not wearing them for safety reasons. If the excuse is because they are hanging bags and getting spiked by sliding girls then I have a problem with the technique that is being taught.

THere have been more girls injured due to stop and go type plays in the metal cleats than in sliding this year. JCHS lost both of their catchers in one tournament while trying to stop after leaving the bag on a pitch. Metal cleats hang and young female athletes tendons can't take it. Its that simple. The freshman catcher recovered and is back playing. The senior has torn ACL and MCL and may have ended her career period. Much has been said about technique and that argument has merit, but the young lady that signed with UT from Riverdale that has the "NATIONAL" single season strikeout record and broke her ankle has had to have been coached on the correct technique, you don't get to that level without good coaching.
