Warriors of Jasper vs Pirates of South Pittsburg

OLD PIRATE

Recommended Posts

Goodness, Old Pirate thought the wife had been at work again. Apparently the other thread was shut down by error. So here it goes. The warriors appear to be out gunned with the Pirates ship loaded with gun powder. The question this OP has is simple. Can the warriors continue to show up for 4 quarters? The Pirates and their nasty mates will hit in the mouth on the 1st play and continue until the final horn. OP says this Pirate team has yet proven anything except........................they will hit you in the teeth. The warriors are not without talent. Pride and tradition will carry them far. Coach Boeck and staff will have them fired up and ready to scalp the Pirates.

Prediction...... they'll both show up and give the fans a show. Heck.., that's why we love this thing so much.

IF you are not the lead dog, the scenary never changes

What happened to the other thread? Oh well, as I said before, SP will roll right from the start during this game. It won't be like last year and get started slowly.

Now Geno, buddy, pal'O'mine, I don't trash you for being proud of this team. Shout it from the rooftops and invite everyone to join in. Heck, tell everybody the players all sleep in superman jammies for all I care. I just said you and ole Cuz there have been hitting the Grog keg to hard when y'all predict a SP blowout. Ain't gonna happen, no matter how much you hope for it. Open your eyes and look North. Personally, I'm hoping for a SP trainwreck Week 1. After that, happy sailing right on to another state championship.

I wasnt really referring you.. lol But to many things factor in to this game,1 with a new coach no one ever knows how each will react in a game time situation... 2 i know you guys have talent and always have.. But this past couple of years including this one. This Pirate team is very special.. as those where for Jasper in the 90's, no matter how bad we wanted to beat them we couldnt to much Talent and Team Chemistry that makes a huge difference

Amen to that prediction OP. This thread needs some life support, something to rev it up or shut it down one. Where have all the posters gone? With all the scrimmages coming up soon they'll be no secrets by game time between these two teams. ZP posted something earlier that tells me they ain't blind to changes down there. Might as well post away.

I just don't see the Warriors as being outgunned by the Pirates this year. Both teams lost good QB's, but the Warriors lost their's before years end. Trust me, OB is not a liability up the road at Marion. Both teams have strong Senior classes to lead them. If the saying "Whatever don't kill you only serves to make you better" has a grain of truth to it, these Warrior Seniors should be nearing perfection after the past two thrashings they've endured from SP. The Marion Juniors are strong as well, many having been pressed into full time duty last year by a lack of numbers. Without going into detail, because.....well, I really don't know any details to reveal.......I see a quite confidence building up in this Marion team. They ain't "skeered" (please don't post that god awful picture) of anything down the road. I do expect both teams to show up and provide the fans with a memorable show. These Warriors ain't the directionless, unconfident team you Pirates have toyed with the past two years. Something tells me, over zealous fans aside, Vic and the gang are already well aware of this down that way.

these two Teams are always ready.. They know whats coming.. no matter what we fan's think they wil be ready to play.. one thing id comment on is you said nohope about loosing a QB.. Cody Robinson was the ball handler ive ever seen.. with that being said our QB we have now is a all around better Qb i believe he has a cannon arm can run like a gazelle, very Tall he can see the field better. I believe i saw one Poster say he was 6'3? he even looks taller lol If a few players play all year to their ability i think we will have 3 D1 prospects and 3 more college bound players.. I cant wait till game time and im sure you cant either.. I hope Jasper goes 14-1... ill whistle on the 1 loss lol

Yep.. From what I have heard I expect a lot of hard nose, power football and a team with more enthusiasm and confidence...should be a good game as usual. I'm glad it is at home.

What??? You don't like my chicken picture??? /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Yes, I know Terrell very well from many years back. He was good then and I'm sure all his accolades now are well earned and deserved. Having said that, I also knew Cody Robinson. Except for week 1, I hope Terrell shows and provides the overall team leadership that Cody always brought to the Pirate team. I have no doubt Terrell is, overall, more talented. Cody, no matter what short comings he may have had on paper, was a team leader that will be hard to replace immediately. I stood and watched the Pirates come back late and beat Boyd two? years ago; this win came primarily because of the leadership Cody showed during that last winning drive IMO. Terrell (as varsity QB) has yet to be in those type situations; I'm sure he'll do just fine in time. I'm hoping he has a difficult first game as a starter, no disrespect intended.

Wow, I am surprised to see this thread started so soon. Just like this thread starting up early the game will be over early also. The mighty Pirates by as many as they want! Game 1 of our Journey to back to back championships. I can't wait for jasper to come to the house of pain!

    • A complete cultural change happened at Greeneville and the administration and community opened up their checkbooks.  What a lot of people don't know is Ballard was Zeller's OC for many years and stopped coaching for two years because Zeller and Ballard didn't see eye to eye on some things.  Zeller lead Greeneville to it's first ever Semi Final appearance in 2000 and lost 28-12 at Maryville and had them in the Quarter Finals in 2002 and 2003.  Z was a great coach but lost some control when it came to making workouts mandatory. (He learned from that Mistake and it was at LC when i coached with him.).  Z was let go going into my Senior Year and was replaced by Steve McCurry who was the one that turned the program around.  Steve had won a 4a state championship at AC Reynolds in Asheville and made the administration completely redo the weight room with new equipment, had a football period at the end of the school day to lift, started devil camp, and brought in coaches like Danny Bentley (Still the OL coach), Ballard as the OC, Cody Baugh (QB coach and still there), and even Spradlen who is Greeneville's head coach now as the DB's Coach.  McCurry only coached for two seasons at Greeneville and took a team that had a losing record the year before and finished my Senior Year making it to the Quarters and having a 10-3 record and then followed it up with a Semi Final appearance the next year with an 11-3 record and back to back conference championships.  Loved McCurry to death but the recession hit and the story i heard was he was still buying new equipment for the team that the Principal didn't authorize and his response was "I don't answer to you and only to Niswonger and Bewley" (Two huge donors).  That was it for him and they Promoted Ballard shortly after that.   Greeneville had always been relevant ever since the the late 70's under Coach Fred Sorrell's.  Since Sorrell's took over in 1977 Greeneville overall winning percentage is over 76%.  The biggest reason people might not have thought Greeneville was "Good" until Ballard was Greeneville always played up Classification wise and could never get over the hump. (When there were 3 classifications we played 3a, when it went to 5 we played 4a).  Greeneville is the largest its ever been with 953 students and where playing teams 2 or 3 times there size back in the day (I had a little over 800 kids in the school when i graduated in 2008).  Other teams always would know they would be sore after a game but depth took over and never won a Championship until Greeneville played in the classification the TSSAA actually assigned them. You had names like Dustin Moore (1993 Mr Football for 3a and who Phillip Fulmer said was one of the greatest athletes he ever recruited), James "Mud Turtle" Mayes, Brigham Lyons, Byron Gillespie, Frankie Debusk (National Champion Qb at Furman with GQ), Jasmine Lowery, Cody Baugh, The Greenway Brothers, Joe Watson (Furman), etc.  Now the cultural is from the Pee Wee league up and you grow up as a young kid wanting to wear the Greene and White.  Here is a really good link when it comes to anything Greeneville Football related. https://greenevillefootball.com/   I also don't coach anymore.  Z told me i was to smart with how the school systems are ran these days and ended up going into real estate in Knoxville which has been a great decision for my life.
    • Yes, they will. I'm wondering what kinds of strides Sale Creek will make heading into the second season under Coach Fitz.
    • No yellow stripes on the rug last night. Biggest crowd I’ve seen at 825 since the alco debacle.
    • I know most Pirate starters were seniors last year. Im not sure how accurate it is but someone said we only have 3 seniors. That Prep team will probably make some noise this coming season too.
