ws6transam30
West 1 - Powell 0 Oak Ridge 4 - Karns 1 West vs Oak Ridge, Friday @ 5:30 Winner Farr/Brdn vs. Loser OR/W and vice versa in Regionals next week Congratulations to West, it was a great soccer match, kinda disheartening to the Powell girls to lose it in the last 2 minutes. However, they have obviously come along way from their Freshmen year losing 7-0 to you guys. Your girls played a great game.

So it appears that the Powell coach who was the subject of some earlier discontent managed to do a pretty good job this year. Congrats to Powell. With the exception of Bearden who appear to be on another level, it appears Knox area public school soccer is getting much more competitive. Oak Ridge, Farragut and West are just behind the Dawgs but below that, things appear to be tightening up.
Ilovethisgame
In today's issue of the Greeneville Sun GHS Girls Soccer Up For Award " The Greeneville High School Lady Devil soccer team has been nominated for the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic Award. A team must have a minimum 3.25 GPA based on a 4.0 scale. For 2007-2008 the Lady Devils had an overall GPA of 3.79. If awarded, the team members will receive certificates in December and recognition at the NSCAA convention in St. Louis in January 2009". Not too bad considering there is like 30 girls on the team. Congrats to the girls and Coach Eiskamp.

By no means was this due to the Coach, these girls have gotten better due to the Competitive Teams they play on as well as their heart, desire and willingness to work. Put their Asst Coach in Charge next year and they may go alot further. Poor line-ups and substitutions throughout the Season cost them many times. So, you are saying when things go poorly that it is the coach's fault but when things go well that the coach had nothing to do with it. Hmmmmm. ws6transam30
So, you are saying when things go poorly that it is the coach's fault but when things go well that the coach had nothing to do with it. Hmmmmm. No I will give credit to the Assistant Coach, and any Coach that really cares about his or her players, and knows something about the game. Note, it could have been alot worse if it wasn't for the Assistant Coach, and she will make a great Head Coach somewhere in the near future. She really kept the girls focus in line, when alot of them were ready to give up on High School Soccer.

Is this team's failure to meet expectations a result of poor coaching or a result of player/parent mutiny? Ask yourselves if you really even gave this coach a chance. Scenarios like this tend to happen when a coaching change is made and the coach's new strategy includes a different line-up. Suddenly girls that feel they have "paid their dues" see themselves change position or play fewer minutes. Bad attitudes on the field and a total disregard for the coach's tactics quickly permeate the ranks. This is then escalated by the parents with chatter on the sidelines and questioning of the coaching decisions. Unfortunately, this vicious cycle makes it nearly impossible for the coach to do what he/she was hired to do - turn an ailing program around. After all, most coaching changes occur when a program has not met expectations. Soccer is a team sport led by a head coach. The assistant coach is there to support, not subvert, the strategy laid out by the head. In order to win and develop, all coaches, players and by extension - parents, must share a singular vision. Divisiveness is always a precursor to a losing season. I would end with a word of caution. If the players on this team are considering a college soccer career, they would be best served to keep their criticism and dirty laundry private. Soccer is a small community and an attitude problem from a player or his/her parents (whether real or perceived) can bench a talented player permanently.
