HAMPTON VS. ONEIDA

Recommended Posts

Come on up here indians. We can't wait til Friday night. Nothin like a good football game on a late August night. Oh yeah, did you hear the one about the cowboy and the muslim extremist?

Three strangers awaiting their flights strike up a conversation in the airport passenger lounge in Knoxville, Tennessee. One is an American Indian passing through from Oneida. Another is a Cowboy on his way to Hampton Tennesse for a football game. And the third is a fundamentalist Arab student, newly arrived at University of Tennessee from the Middle East who is headed to a training conference Johnson City, Tennessee.

Their discussion drifts to their diverse cultures. Soon, the two men learn that the Arab is a devout, radical Muslim who supports Osama Bin Laden's Jihad, so the conversation falls into an uneasy lull. The cowboy leans back in his chair, crosses his boots on a magazine table and tips his big sweat-stained hat forward over his face. The wind outside is blowing tumbleweeds around, and the old windsock is flapping; but still . . . no plane comes.

Finally, ! the American Indian clears his throat and softly, he speaks, "At one time here, my people were many, but sadly, now we are few."

The Muslim student raises an eyebrow and leans forward, "Once my people were few," he sneers, "and now we are many. Why do you suppose that is?"

The Hampton cowboy shifts his toothpick to one side of his mouth and from the darkness beneath his Stetson says in a drawl, "That's 'cause we ain't played Cowboys and Muslims yet, . . . but I do believe it's a-comin'."

What else did General George Armstrong Custer say?

Thats a cute story dogfather, except that Muslim never would have got to the plane with that "discussion" taking place. /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> You see, both the Hampton Cowboy and the Oneida Indian would have quickly ended that Muslim's day because of what their brothers and sisters have had to endure up to this point. We can be from different places, but together we toil for our soil! I look forward to a great game, in a great atmostphere......as you can see, '92SC is already sittin' at the table.

Well its almost time and the anticipation is growing by the second. I can't wait to see both of these teams go at it to see who will come out victorious. I'm sure Oneida has worked their tails off and I know for a fact that they will be ready. I know that Hampton has as well and whoever wins this game can say that they are the probable favorite in both regions. With a loss, it might be a stumbling block for both teams, but I highly doubt either one will roll over and call it a season. It's great to see this type of match early because it gives you and idea of what kind of team you have at the present and it builds excitement for both teams to come out and play as hard as they can. I can only hope after its all said and done, both teams can come out with positives and some things that can be used to build on to improve their respective teams. I really hope Hampton wins but it won't be the end of the world if they don't. Just work hard guys, do what you do, use what you have been taught and above all, thank the good lord above for the opportunities he has given you. With that being said, Good Luck to both teams and for the Oneida fans making the long journey up, Have a safe trip. Go dogs!!

Smash, you had to dig deep for that one. /roflolk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflolk:" border="0" alt="roflolk.gif" /> I've given the game careful consideration this week. Understand I have a "healthy" respect for Hampton Football. Heck, its been down right unbearable not to have spoken to the world famous Pujo this week. I can only speculate as to how he thinks this one will go. I sure as heck don't want to add any pressure to my guys (coaching staff and players), but I really feel that Hampton isn't replacing some of the players they had with better players in their place. Roop (no way) Lunsford (that transfer can't have his pedigree) and several others in that graduating class were exceptionally quality players. (sorry, I can't recall all their names) Anyway, Oneida is definitely a better team than a season ago and that team played Hampton tough in both meetings. So.....with the loss of some key individuals for Hampton plus the experience level Oneida has returning, I think the Indians will get this one. Will it be a blow out? Not likely, but I would think it is possible for one or the other to have a "hot" night. My score:

Oneida 21

Hampton 10

Hope that score doesn't ruffle any feathers......HERE OR IN HAMPTON!

just one more day

I wont put up any predictions , everyone will have a different one with different point spreads.

I think we will all agree this is one of the better games of the year. minus the long drive ofcourse.

The thing that matters is Oneida and Hampton fans will sure enough get 4 quarters of football.

Hope we see this game on the schedule for many years to come. I know I have looked forward to it all summer.

    • Best-of-three sectional series vs East Robertson at home starting Wednesday.  They put us out last year at this point.  Go Pirates!!
    • I don't believe they have anyone that is surbers caliber but a decent staff overall.

    • Congratulations to the Warrior baseball team winning the Region Championship.  Last night the football team beat Franklin Co 33-0 in their spring scrimmage. Warriors looked very good. Missing a few players who were playing baseball but still absolutely dominated. A lot of young ones got in halfway through the 3rd when the score reached 33-0. QB Tilton Pickett looked very sharp.  Sam Pickett is on another level this season. Seems to have put on 15 to 20 lbs in the off season and added a step as well. Transfer from last year Williamson caught numerous balls and is very elusive. Lots of athletes on this team. Defense was smothering and will only get better. The head coach from Sewanee was in attendance and offered 2 kids after the game. Could be a special year.
