I won't take this opportunity to bash the refs but I will say the refs play an intricate part in boys high school basketball. I hear all the time the refs shouldn't decide the outcome of the game. Well, I totally disagree with that statement. Refs are there to serve a vital role THROUGHOUT the game. If a violation occurs with 1 second left, the refs have an obligation to make the call no matter what the score may be or who is winning...bottom line up front! I have witnessed some games this season in which violations have occurred and totally ignored for whatever reason. While I do know how difficult it is to officiate sports across the board, being that I do officate, that doesn't negate the fact that we should adequately represent our nightly, chosen profession! Perfect example, I had the misfortune of watching a local game this year and witnessed a ref in such poor shape that he never made it passed half court on any occasion. And this ref was making calls that were originated under the goal....perfect example of this individual just making extra money at the kids expense. While sports will never be a perfect scenario, we as adults can ensure we are doing our part to promote the fun and competetiveness of the games!

Good post. I completely agree about the end of game situation. If its a foul or walk blow your whistle. That's what your there for. Just make sure its the right call.

That is true and you may be one of the "good ones"...and there are excellent refs but I have seen some of the craziest calls of my life this year in basketball. Lemme ask...do you study and brush up on the rules???? Are there refresher courses?????? Do some refs have a bias against certain schools?? I do appreciate the time refs take to do a job I certainly would not want to do, thanks for that. I have talked with a former TSSAA official who told me refs have meetings and talk about different schools and some they just flat out do not like. As for what happened in this game IF someone has a coach slapping a player from another school on tape....well necessary action NEEDS to be taken. In case people didn't know besides the players being kids there are also young children that attend games....turn it over to the local news and broadcast it or something....if that allegation turns out to be true, the guy doesn;t need to coach...bottom line.

All good points... I take back what I posted earlier in another thread.

lets not bash the refs, i mean in the professional arenas, players, coaches, owners all get blasted by the media and whoever else wants to blast their performances or their play and their is no fines, but if one of the above mentioned says something negative about a ref, a big fine follows. THe refs get paid and they can take some criticism.

Alright referee who does his best, I watch basketball live 2-3 nights each week during season, I see a hand check called once out of 12 times that I see a hand check, I see a carry called 1 time out of 68 carrries, how can one call a carry if he is not going to call it consistantly and now adays most ball handlers slide their hand under the ball regularly call free. I do not officiate but it strikes me odd that a crew will not call a game together. Last night for instance, one of the referees in the girls game called 9 fouls on the home team and 2 on the other, the same referee in the boys game, called 7 on the home team and 2 on the other. I notcied in the girls game early that the gentlemen was letting obvious fouls under his nose go without a whistle so I began to take notes. I do believe in my first post that I mentioned that many folks acted very irresponsible last night at Rossview HC game, HC won both games and the girls game was not even close but the officiating was awful. so my complaints are not sour grapes.

Ok before anyone says anything, understand that everyone is going to have their own story as to what happened, so it's very likely that things are going to be told that aren't actually accurate. I wouldn't believe everything you hear.

There was an ugly scene that broke out at the conclusion of the game, and it was honestly really sad to see people behave that way.

Exactly..HC people should have kept their tails on the bench. All boils down to the AD...he didn't have control of the crowd. That is what they get paid to do. He was out there acting like jerk himself. Rossview people didn't charge the floor because our people HANDLED THEM! And I know this B/C I was there and SAW THE WHOLE THING TOO!

Where do you see bashing? I'm stating facts. Fact #1 Rossview beat Henry County and Williams had the game of his life. Fact #2, Ensworth beat them by 54. Where was Williams, Childs, etc... in that game? What happened there? And then they only score in the low 30's against Beech? This is a good team, but let's not act like they're unbeatable. Williams' history has shown that if you punch him in the face early he is not the same player. However, if he gets on a roll, and you can always tell when he does because he'll talk to everyone in the gym, he's going to be a lot to handle. And no, winning a game in the regular season doesn't really count as much of an accomplishment. Win district, then we'll talk.

Yeah the cop did not handle the situation correctly. He needs to be reprimanded that's for sure. But nonetheless, glad to see that henry county perserveered and showed character to keep fighting down the stretch

From what I've concluded, 2 HC fans that I won't name were arrested. Then, after HC won, some jawing occured. Now I've heard that a player from HC was hit in the face, and from what I've heard it was a coach that did that. After that, all %*#* broke loose. Is that semi-accurate, Clutch? In all honesty I wasn't at the game but have heard the story 3 times and it's all been around that general consensus.

Well let me just set the record straight. NO COACH HIT ANYONE IN THE FACE. HC people are the ones that charged the floor then the HC players. Rossview was trying to keep HC people of ours. And what about the AD pining one of our players on the ground?? Guess no body said that HUH? That is what happen. I WAS THERE AND SAW IT ALL. HC people need to keep their mouth shut about what happen. Yes there was dirty playing and jaw smacking going on. But here's the thing if HC palyers can take it, then don't dish it out. If someone kicked you in the lower mid section (know what i mean), then you would have done something back, HUH??????? HC played dirty the whole time. Coaches for HC acted like a bunch of babies too. HC is a JOKE in the district. And the person that got arrested ( I know his name ) should have been arrested by the way he acted. He didn't keep his mouth shut and resisted arrest. That is what happens when you mess with the law. YOU GO TO JAIL. Maybe he learned his lesson.

Ok this is pretty much how it happened without the words I wanna use and tellin ppls names. First the refs were absolutely horrible. I'm sure TSSAA will be gettin the film from this game. Its kinda what started the whole thing. In the second half there was a horrible call and some of our fans got upset cuz it was happenin all night. The police came to escort them out. One of the fans said for what and the police officer grabbed him and escorted him out with a lot of force for no reason. That made our fans upset. And it also got the players into the game. Well after we won one of our players was hit in the face. And then a fan kept pushin him and gettin in his face so he went after him. And they had ppl pullin them apart well our players familys were gettin mad cuz the police didn't do anything so they went out there. And everybody was goin after everybody. But the only person arrested was from henry county. And he was mased and took out in hand cuffs for tryin to break up the fight. It was the worst refs I've ever seen, the worst I've ever seen grown men and women act, and the worst I've seen police act towards ppl. It was just horrible. I'm just glad we got the win and got out safe.

LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING NO HC PLAYER GOT HIT IN THE FACE. HC PEOPLE WERE THE ONE THAT CHARGED THE FLOOR. YOU PEOPLE WERE THE ONE THAT CHARGED OUR PLAYERS. HERE'S THE THING, HC PLAYERS PLAYED DIRTY AAAAALLLLLL THROUGH OUT THE GAME. IF YOU CAN TAKE IT THEN DON'T DISH IT OUT. I DON'T GUESS YOU DONT KNOW ABOUT YOUR AD TAKING ONE OF OUR PLAYERS TO THE GROUND. YOU PEOPLE NEED TO KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT. I THINK THE POLICE DID A GOOD JOB. THE PERSON THAT WAS ARRESTED DESERVED TO GO TO JAIL. HE RESISTED ARREST AND WAS DISORDERLY CONDUCT. IF OUR COACHES DID ANYTHING THEY WERE TRYING YOU PEOPLE OF OUR KIDS. AND WHAT DO YOU MEAN GOT OUT SAFE. THAT'S A JOKE. WE ARE NOT KNOW FOR THAT WE HAVE CLASS. AND I GUESS YOU SAW THAT OUR PEOPLE DID NOT CHARGE THE FLOOR HUH??? B/C OUR FACULTY KEPT CONTROL OF OUR FANS & STUDENTS. WHERE WAS YOUR AD...OH YEAH HAD ONE OF OUR PLAYERS DOWN ON THE GROUND. HC COACHES ACTED TERRIBLE, JUST LIKE BIG BABIES. HC IS A JOKE OF THE DISTRICT.

Now correct me if I am wrong but isn't this about the 3rd time HC has been involved in something like this during the season? Was there something similar to this that occured in KY at a tourney? Now I am not faulting the HC players or coaches. Maybe they are just some sort of "lightening rod" for this kind of stuff...and maybe it is hard for some of these teams to stomach losing to HC.

Well if that's the case it's b/c they play dirty. You can't play that way without some sort of retaliation. And again as i've said before if you can take it don't dish it out. And it was about someone losing to them, it's b/c of how they act.

You keep sayin we played dirty. Please explain how. It was one of your players that kept pushing 2 of our players. It was a grown man from rossview going after one of our players after the game. And yes your fans were on the court. I was there too so quit actin like this was just a HC thing. Yall lost period and yall had the refs on your side.

Friend of mine says the coaches are a little arrogant and distant but he says they do a great job. Maybe that is what causes all the hostility and the fact that their players play really hard.
