I'm not sure what to make of it either.

What are the eight schools in question? When I think of Shelby County, I think of far more than eight schools. Are we talking the larger ones only (Whitehaven, etc.)?

The county schools that are being diiscussed in this article are the public schools that are IN Shelby County but NOT in the City of Memphis. Hit the link below and every school that is listed is a Shelby County school. The public schools on the list that ARE NOT listed as Memphis schools are the schools in question.

It shouldn't even be an option for public schools to be in DII

AP ... I think that was the general thought by those who set up the classificaion system. I don't think they gave a thought about public schools wanting to get into the D2 classification. But ... now that there has been an interest by Shelby County schools ... now the question remains ... what's going on in Shelby County that those schools want to be classified as D2 schools?

Drop Southwind and add Cordova.

Any guesses as to why they'd want to go DII?

Follow the money !!!!!

That's my guess.... Somewhere, somehow those unspecified Shelby County Schools have probably done some calculations that indicate some sort of financial advantage, as a result of switching to D-II.

    • Best-of-three sectional series vs East Robertson at home starting Wednesday.  They put us out last year at this point.  Go Pirates!!
    • I don't believe they have anyone that is surbers caliber but a decent staff overall.
    • Richland plays at McKenzie on Wed.  Should be a good series.  Does Richland have good pitching?
    • Congratulations to the Warrior baseball team winning the Region Championship.  Last night the football team beat Franklin Co 33-0 in their spring scrimmage. Warriors looked very good. Missing a few players who were playing baseball but still absolutely dominated. A lot of young ones got in halfway through the 3rd when the score reached 33-0. QB Tilton Pickett looked very sharp.  Sam Pickett is on another level this season. Seems to have put on 15 to 20 lbs in the off season and added a step as well. Transfer from last year Williamson caught numerous balls and is very elusive. Lots of athletes on this team. Defense was smothering and will only get better. The head coach from Sewanee was in attendance and offered 2 kids after the game. Could be a special year.
