Centennial @ Gallatin

IF MY GREEN WAVE ARE BACK ON TRACK, IT WONT BE THAT CLOSE. BUT THE DEFENSE NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING, ESPECIALLY COVERING THE PASS. WE HAVE BEEN BURNED THERE TOO MUCH, ESPECIALLY PLAYOFF TIME.

BUT I EXPECT GALLATIN TO CORRECT THE ISSUES, AND START CLICKING AGAIN. CENTENNIAL HAS SOME SPEED, BUT THEY DONT LOOK THAT GOOD TO ME. FRANKLIN COULD HAVE BEATEN THEM WORSE THAN 35-14, POSSIBLY SHOULD HAVE SHUT THEM OUT.

I GO WITH GHS OVER CHS 34-21.

Man ya'll got this one started early....

After listening to the coaches breakfast, it sounds like Centennial and Gallatin matchup sizewise on the lines. The Cougars have a really good kicking game and a very explosive offense. They seem to like the big play while Gallatin is more smashmouth. The big difference between these two teams is speed. Centennial is faster than any team we have faced. Scales maybe the fastest guy playing in 5-A. He is a track champion. The description of Scales was a Terrance Davis with discipline, not a good combo for Gallatin. The runningback, whos name escapes me, is almost as quick. The big tightend/wideout, Kelly, has deceptive speed and a huge height advantage. They got wore out last night in the second half but I still think Franklin is the best team in the state. So no shame there. Pretty much a mirror image of Gallatin but a lot faster.

I must agree after seeing both of these teams in person at one point in the season that speed will be the major difference here. One point I have to differ with in an earlier post is the offensive line of Gallatin. I was not impressed whatsoever. #78 has great size but really didn't lay the wood to anyone. Also the line made initial blocks but didn't stay engaged. HOWEVER, Centennial's defense up front is nothing special since Orlando McGloskey broke his leg. I have a feeling this may very well be a high scoring event with Centennial's speed giving them the slight edge although they cannot afford to turn the ball over the way they did against Franklin. It should be a great game in a great atmosphere. Both squads should be proud of their efforts in 2008.

After keeping Holder and Woods out against McGavock I think Gallatin should be rather healthy going into this playoff game. The regular season is over and everyone is 0-0 as far as the playoffs go. Looking forward to seeing the boys in Green at home this week after being on the road for the last two. I don't know anything about Centinnial other than a few posts and highlights on tv. As I was watching channel 2's coverage I was reminded of how Antioch plays with a scrambling QB. I also saw the BIG WR. I am really hoping for a good week of practice this week that will lead to a great game on Friday night. Don't forget kickoff in playoff games is 7:00 so plan on getting there early.

Does Gallatin have a CB or Safety tall enough to guard Drew Kelly?

Our safety is 6-6 or so maybe a little taller not for sure. I don't know if that will help though, that guy looks like a monster. Our safety is very fast though and covers pretty quick. He was out of position against H-ville on Yazzie's 45 yard td reception not really sure what happened. Either way I think he will have a good matchup with your big guy. Does he play WR or is he a TE he looks pretty thick for a WR but you never know from a tv camera. That's not too say anything negative about him just didn't look like he weighed 175 or anything. Wouldn't be surprised to see him lined up at DE either.

He plays TE but they split him out as a reciever sometimes. He also plays DE. He goes about 245lbs. The other reciever is pretty good too.

You have to watch Scales on the option. He likes to make wide pitches when he gets bottled up. Gallatin is going to have to guard against that so the runningback doesn't make a long gain.

I would actually beg to differ.

After the initial two drives, Centennial's defense played very well against Franklin, but three 2nd half interceptions at midfield made it tough for the Cougar D to make any stops on such a short field.

Yes, they did let up some unacceptable big plays (especially in the run game), but it was turnovers that doomed the Cougars tonight, not defense.

Except for a couple Franklin possesions, the running game of Ford and Lee ran at will against the stout Cougar D. Yes, the turnovers gave Franklin the ball, but C-C-CHS did nothing to stop the Rebels once they did get the ball.

As for this game, if Centennial hasn't had a "signature win," then Gallatin surely has not. I'm going to have to go with the Cougars, because CHS has played a much tougher schedule than the Green Wave. I don't think Gallatin would be in the playoffs if they were in Region 6...

I would like to see Centennial pull this one out. It is hilarious to see some posters knock on a team with 7 wins in a tough region.

Of course, I am a Williamson Co football fan and want to see all of them win now that we are in the playoff season. I rooted for all of them before and Indy last year.

The one area that you might underestimate the Cougars is the Coach

Oh, there's no doubt that Franklin ran the ball phenomenally against the Cougars. I was merely saying that it would've been more of a challenge had the average starting position for Franklin in the 2nd half not been at midfield.

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
