You can almost hear the conversation between the architect and the school administration when the gym opened for the first time.

 

School Admin: "Hey man, where are the fans going to sit?"

Architect: "the what?"

hate on it all you want but i absolutely love THE PIT. although the gym is old, i love the setup. i just wish the stands were a bit bigger. but with the smallness we can get really loud, and that sound resinates really well. especially with the student section this year, very very loud.

I agree that Unaka is not set up real well but you must have never played at Cloudland! That gym up there makes Unaka look like Thompson Bowling Arena!!

Agreed on Washburn...very outdated. Bleachers on one side, players on the other. Not too many seats. A small school, but still not very well thought out when it was constructed. Just another reason why the folks on the north side of the mountain don't like the folks on the south side...especially now with the state of the art facility that's sitting along the highway.

 

Perhaps all the Washburn kids will go to Grainger one day...

Not hating at all. But it has to be one of the worst gyms in the state. The floor is not even big enough.

In Nashville hands down it is Maplewood. Thankfully, ground has been broken on a new gym for them.

 

 

Yeah the walls are about 2 feet away from the baseline and the court is small
