Looking at the list the race for the Class 3A State Title looks to be a rematch of this past year's 2A title matchup. Alcoa has won 5 state championships in a row and they could be as good as they have been in recent years judging by the players they have returning. Milan will be the favorite to come out of the west being that they are returning a lot of talented performers as well.

 

Who else is a contender?????

Realistically...nobody will beat Alcoa. They should be loaded.

I agree that Alcoa will be the front runner. Teams like Milan and Goodpasture should be good. Goodpasture played alot of sophomores and juniors last year, and they had a freshman quarterback, so they have high hopes for next year. The thing about high school kids is that you never know!

Here are my (very) early preseason picks for top teams.

East - Alcoa, Austin-East, CAK, Gatlinburg-Pittman, Tyner

Middle - CPA, Goodpasture, Lewis Co., Smith Co., Westmoreland

West - Camden, Carver, Manassas, Milan, Westview

Looks pretty on. Would have thrown in Fairview, but with the loss of the head coach, hard to predict how they will do. Lewis is rebuilding this year from what I read, so another hard one to predict. (good coaching though might be the surprise)

 

Milan and Alcoa looks to repeat next year. Goodpasture nothing being better, young but gain a lot of experience last year. AE if they put it together could make a serious run, as is with Tyner.

 

Over all I would say looks pretty accurate. How about any sleepers out there that might slip in.......know of any that are on the edge?

No love for Loudon here. The Redskins will be a much better team in 2009. I believe Loudon, Alcoa, and A-E can realistically win the state. But the road goes through Alcoa.

the district to watch out for is where Pearl Cohn who had only 8 seniors on there team last year. CPA, and East Lit. Goodpasture will have a tough time moving out from the middle tenn. region

I still have to go with " open zone " ALCOA going to be hard to de-throne them with that recuiting capability and no multiplier. I see them as being a BRENTWOOD ACADEMY of the future

It will be no cake walk for AE this year just because they moved to a lower class! especially if all their kids are locked up.....TURTLE
