I went to Jefferson County, and we said the Lord's Prayer after every practice, before every game, and after every game. I cannot believe that we in America, where we are supposed to be free, are going to tell coaches that they cannot participate in prayer. I totally agree that a coach or teacher should not lead the prayer, but to tell a person they cannot participate kinda goes against the word freedom. If a student or coach wishes not to participate, that is their choice. But don't tell a coach they cannot participate. AND WE WONDER WHY THIS NEXT GENERATION OF AMERICANS IS SO OFF BASE! We allow them to listen to gangster rap and heavy metal music that spews forth anti-moral behavior, but Heaven forbid we allow them to pray.

I am super proud to be associated with the Tullahoma football program, where head coach John Olive is a spiritual leader not only on the field and in the locker room but in the community as well.

Hats off to Coach Thompson at Lincoln Co. and again I'm grateful to now be in a district with him. District 8-AAA, with coaches Olive at Tullahoma, Thompson at LC, Atkins at Franklin Co., Jason Hardy at Shelbyville, Vance Belew at Columbia, and David Marston at Lawrence Co. is blessed with really quality coaches and people.

Once they take God completely away from us we are finished as a free nation. As they are currently taking away our financial freedom, and obviously continuing to take away our religious freedom, it is quite obvious what examples we have of the country we are becoming.

Let's see....government-owned industry and banks....no religious freedom....sounds like the England our forefathers left to start with, not to mention Soviet Union, China, on and on and on. Geez how depressing. No wonder we focus such attention on 16-year-old kids playing football.

I also do not know this man, but it our duty and responsibility to lift him in prayer. Just remember when we do not stand together, we will fail. Our coach and team also has prayer before and after each game. For those who oppose, they have the freedom not to participate. You are right when we take GOD out of the equation, we will ultimately pay the price. Look at other nations who chose to forget him.

Thank God we have coaches like Coach Thompson. I support and agree with his quote at the end of the article and I'll stand with him.

Any move in Tennessee to strengthen the ban on teams' or coaches' ability to pray would probably be met with hostility, said Louis Thompson, the Lincoln County coach.

"I'm going to continue to do it," he said, "and I couldn't care less what the Supreme Court says or does."

The MOST persecuted people in America are Christians and it's time we stood up to the Sean Penn's and the Kathy Giffin's of the world. Our young people need positive role models of which a coach has the window of opportunity to be if he will take advantage of it. I am thankful there are many in Tennessee that feel as I do. Thank you Coach Thompson for using the platform you have to teach more than just football. WE SHALL OVERCOME!!!!

Wow, some of those comments on the Tennessean article are downright shocking:

People claiming that Christians are taking over public schools and taking their children with them. Claiming that Coach Thompson should honor the law of the land regardless of his personal beliefs about injustice, etc. Claiming that Christians should keep their faith at church and home or else go to a Christian school. Man, many people just have no desire to be accountable to anyone else for their actions.

    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
