Big News from AC

Kerr should be congratulated and thanked for the many years of molding young men...his record speaks for itself. He is a good man, and was a good coach. The TN football scene will not be the same without him. You will be missed coach.

How could Samples be ahead of Justin Price? JP is a VERY knowledgable coach. He is an AC guy, and when...not to mention names...Scott Co. coach...turned Kerr down multiple times for the OC job JP was happy to take it. In fact, it was his dream job second to becoming the HC. He graduated from AC...it was the only place he ever talked about wanting to coach coming out of college. Justin is also a model young man...Church on Sundays, good worker etc. I could not imagine having a better role model for young players than he is, when so many people his age are into the party scene. Justin would spend his whole career at AC if given the chance. Samples is currently coaching below JP, how could he stay on staff if jumped by an assistant...my instincts tell me he would leave if Samples got the job. I know loyalty seems to be worth very little these days...ala Fulmer firing. But, Justin is a Mav for life if hired as the HC. I see Samples as another coach out there looking for a "better deal". Where is his loyalty? Could he be a long term coach...I doubt that. If AC is looking for stability and professionalism one could not favor an outsider over an AC grad when the AC grad has so much ability and promise. Samples has very little experience...he coaches a position...thus he does not face the problems and decisions that go along with game planning, program planning that a coordinator does. That is why people in coaching RARELY make the jump from position coach to Head Coach...just doesn't lend the "Quality Experience" needed to become a HC. Being a coordinator certainly prepares one to be a HC, since the responsibility is so similar.

Lambert would be a good hire, but a young coach such as Justin could continue the improvement that was apparent when he and Matt came on board...look at the turnaround they made. 5-5, 4-6, Prices hired and they go 8-4 twice I think...with a heartbreaking loss to the eventual state champs last year, and a loss to state champ Fulton the year before. Also Lambert has children in Oneida...his family is from there...that would be a tough move for him. AC would benefit from hiring a guy that the kids can relate to/respect. The numbers would likely improve, and there is no doubt they would assemble a solid staff. If AC loses either of the Prices they are losing their future I think...Matt and Justin are the face of the Program now, and they should embrace Justin as the new HC.

I HOPE & PRAY MATT OR JUSTIN IS THE NEW AC COACH. IF THEY WERE THE HEAD COACH THIS PAST YEAR, THE MAVS WOULD HAVE BEEN STATE CHAMPIONS. FOR ONE, IN THE AC VS AE GAME JP & MATT WOULD HAVE KICKED FIELDGOALS. AC LOST BY 5 POINTS 4 TIMES, THEY WERE IN KICKERS RANGE WITH A KICKER THAT NEVER MISSED ONE ALL YEAR. EVERYONE KNEW THAT THE AC VS KC PLAYOFF GAME WAS FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP, BUT COACH KERR DONE WHAT HE ALWAYS DOES A COUPLE TIMES A YEAR. HE CALLS 4 JUMPBALL PASSES TO JOSH WILSON. WHEN YOU'RE 11 YARDS AWAY FROM WINNING, YOU GOT TO GET THE ROCK TO #11 COLEMAN. THAT WAS HOW AC BEAT KINGSTON & THE WAY AC BEAT CARTER. AC WOULD HAVE THE GOLD BALL INSTEAD OF THE SCHOOL THAT PLAYS PLAYERS NO MATTER HOW MUCH TROUBLE OR WHAT THEY HAVE DONE. GOOD LUCK COACH KERR. THANKS FOR THE 250 WINS, BUT JUST LIKE THE PRES SAID, WE NEED A CHANGE!

Anderson County- welcome your new coach, Josh Kerr. Okay so I am only guessing but seems logical.

I hate to disappoint you and DevilsDen, but the Kerr's are out at AC. I heard they are headed back to Hall's.

WELL THE REASON, WHY SAMPLES IS AHEAD OF JP IS BC HE WAS A HEAD COACH OF A 1A TEAM IN GEORGIA A FEW YRS BK, LIKE I SAID EITHER ONE IS A GOOD FIT FOR AC BUT WHEN ITS ALL SAID AND DONE THE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR DOESNT DECIDE IF THEY GET THE JOB OR NOT, ITS THE PRINCIPAL OF THE SCHOOL, AND I PROMISE YOU DEAL AND LAMBERT ARE CLOSE AND WHAT MAKES YOU THINK LAMBERT WONT COME BK IF GIVEN THE OPPERTUNITY, HE WAS DOWN HERE FOR THE MAJORITY OF HIS CAREER, AND ON TOP OF THAT HE IS PRETTY CLOSE TO DEAL, AND MRS STOOKSBERRY, , MAYBE YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE SAMPLES LEAVE, THAT WAY YOU COULD COME DOWN HERE AND COACH WITH THEM, NOT SAYIN THAT WOULD BE A BAD THING, IV SEEN ONE OF YOUR FAMILY MEMBERS DOWN HERE AN AWFUL LOT LATELY. JOSH KERR WILL NOT BE A CANIDATE FOR THE JOB, AS WELL AS GARRY TERRY WONT EITHER, YOU HEARD IT FROM ME FIRST, DNT LET IT DISSAPOINT YOU WHEN YOUR BOY DNT GET THE JOB, AND IT GOES TO EITHER TODD SAMPLES, TONY LAMBERT, AND IV HEARD IT SAID MANY TIMES HERE IN THE LAST COUPLE OF YRS, THE NAME JIMMY GAYLOR KEEPS COMING UP, DNT CARE WHO GETS IT HONESTLY BC I DNT HAVE A DOG IN THE FIGHT ANYMORE.

Alright, here we go. As we get personal I guess I must explain. Everybody always seems to think people have hidden agendas when they offer heart-felt opinion. I am simply a fan of theirs because I know I would want my children...if I had any...to play for them. Aside from good football coaches they are sincerely good people.

I think the job is Lambert's if he wants it as well, but the difference is, this time around his family is older and his Oneida roots are a little deeper. He has a son in high school and two other children in the system, if I am not mistaken. I had no idea about Samples having that job...throws a little more information my way. How successful was he there? Why did he leave?

Once again I will say I am a person that is about loyalty. I loved the Fulmer years. I see a football program as a body of work, not what have you done for me lately. That is another personal plus for JP...being an AC person that wants to be at AC.

Now for the family issue. That is all about AAU basketball, some kids from AC play for them, and since you know so much about my family you are well aware of my situation in KY...our roots here are planted pretty deeply, much like Lambert at Oneida. That is also another perspective I have; I simply could not turn away from what we have here to coach football at AC...much like Lambert again. The main difference is that he would have a managable commute. What would that do to his children left back at Oneida? The community may not be too happy to lose a coach that has made OHS a competitor for state titles again, to a "better deal" at AC.

They would not have been state champions if they were the head coach. Pretty ridiculous statement as you posted above. Who was the offensive coordinator that only had single digits versus AE? field goals or no field goals, a team that should win state would have scored more.

Let's see.......did you just repeat what I just said? It was obvious who was at the controls during those games vs Carter and Kingston...DUH!!!

FOR ONE COACH L HAS NO CHILDREN IN HIGHSCHOOL, HE HAS ALREADY GRADUATED, AND AS I SAID BEFORE LAMBERT SON, THAT IS IN MIDDLE SCHOOL TOLD ME AND MY FAMILY, IN FRONT OF HIS MOM, AND DAD THAT HE WANTS TO PLAY HIS HIGHSCHOOL FOOTBALL AT AC, YES GIVEN THAT THE KID IS JUST IN THE SITH GRADE, BUT WHEN A KID SAYS SOMETHING LIKE THAT, I PRETTY SURE HE'S MADE HIS MIND AND YOU KNOW WHAT HIS MOM SAID, SHE SAID THAT WELL JUST HAVE TO SEE WERE DADS COACHING AT THE TIME, I HAVE A REAL CLOSE RELATIONSHIP WITH THE LAMBERTS, AND I TELL YOU THIS HE TOLD ME ONE TIME JUST THIS PAST YR, HE SAID IF GIVEN THE OPPERTUNITY, HE WOULD LOVE TO COME BACK TO AC, IF IT WAS IN THE RIGHT SITUATION. I GUESS IF YOU LOVED THE FAT PHILL YEARS, I GUESS YOU WOULD ALSO LIKE TO SEE THE PRICES GET THE JOB, THAT WAY YOU COULD RUTE SAMPLES OUT THE WAY, FULMER DONE MAJORS /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> WHAT WOULD BE THE BIG PROBLEM OF HIM LIVING UP THERE AND COACHING DOWN AT AC HE JUST DONE IT FOR 8YRS PLUS /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" /> DUH!

One name that I have been hearing is Scotty Herrell from Clinton. He has all the credentials that one would ask for. He was a very successful middle school head coach, and is a high school coordinator. Scotty is across the river but he is an Anderson County native. Who knows what will happen. I bet when the band struck up "It's great to be a part of the herd" he wouldn't have any problem being a maverick.

How many 25 year olds are a head coach around the state? Besides playing football at AC for their senior season, how in the world are they more qualified than guys with real coaching/world experience? Just a question, I am not trying to raise the ire of the oppressed/mystery.

What about Gary Terry? GT has ran that program for the last several years as the assistant head coach. I know he is in consideration the AD position, but he has been there as an assistant since the mid 90's before leaving Oak Ridge. Gary also has some time as a player at UT (I don't know exactly to what extent), but he is qualified. I do however agree that TL will get the offer first. The community will Greg out of town if he doesn't at least ask him first.

No ire raised here, Indiangiver. A good question. Let me ask this. How does anyone get "experience" if not given the opportunity (no matter the age)? Two edged sword.

    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
