The ballot is now in my hands. Positive feedback is needed as to who you think the nominees should be. Negative comments will not help:

The Mr. and Miss Basketball Awards presented by Farm Bureau Insurance of Tennessee will be presented to the top girls and boys in five classifications of the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association at the state basketball championships in March.

This group is to include three finalists for Miss Basketball and three for Mr. Basketball in each classification. The winners of the coveted award are to receive the distinguished Mr. and Miss Basketball trophy with the other finalists being presented plaques.

The awards will be presented for each classification prior to the championship game awards presentation for each class, respectively. The presentation of the Mr. and Miss Basketball Awards for Division II will be given on Saturday, March 6 at Allen Arena on the campus of Lipscomb University in Nashville.

The presentation of the Miss Basketball Awards for Division I, Classes A, AA, and AAA will be given during each championship awards ceremony for each class on Saturday, March 13 at the Murphy Center on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro.

The presentation of the Mr. Basketball Awards for Division I, Classes A, AA, and AAA will be given during each championship awards ceremony for each class on Saturday, March 20 at the Murphy Center on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University.

Any player at any of our member schools is eligible to receive votes, and I would encourage you to take a moment and give careful consideration to any player with whom you are familiar and who you think deserving of the Mr. or Miss Basketball Award.

These votes are a nominating process only. A selection committee that will include representatives from each area of the state will meet to vote on the finalists and winner of the Mr. and Miss Basketball Award for each classification. You may submit the names of up to three players in each classification for the awards. It is not necessary to vote for three players in each category, but that is your option. And, please, consider the statewide aspect of this voting process.

In order for your ballot to be counted in the selection process, it must be received in our office via mail or fax (615-889-0544) no later than noon on FEBRUARY 8. Please respond today.

I know it won't happen this way, but the top 3 AAA players in the state all reside in West TN.

Joe Jackson - White Station - Signed with Memphis

Tarik Black - Ridgeway - Signed with Memphis

Casey Prather - Jackson North Side - Signed with Florida

Joe Jackson and Tarik Black are apart of the Memphis recruiting class that is currently ranked #1 in top recruiting classes in the NCAA next year.

It won't happen, but I agree with you there!

Jamal Hughes of Murfreesboro Oakland. He is a 6'3 guard that averages 25pts, 8 rbs, 3 asst, 3 stl. He has helped Oakland to a record of 18-5, is getting a lot of mid major and some low major looks. He is a model student, one of the best people you will ever meet. Best player I have seen in Mid State this year. Really special, can score a variety of ways. He is the focus of the defense every night and still quietly (without forcing shots) dominates the game every night. He is over 1500 pts for career (didnt play any varsity as freshman) currently 3rd in Oakland history. If he is not what Mr. Basketball is all about then I don't know who is.

Should definitely get some consideration...IMO

Kyle Brink from Lawrence County. It's a longshot, but this kid is quietly putting together a impressive senior season, averaging around 15 points a game, is lights out from 3 point range, and is a team leader for the wildcats. If he has a good rest of the season, and has a good postseason, look for his name to pop up in some Mr. basketball discussions.

East TN AAA: Tyler Hood (Lenoir City). 25pts, 11rbs, 4 assists, 2 blocks. Most Valuable Player Dist. 4-AAA as a junior. Many others awards... 4 year starter. Samford Signee due to Ph.D programs. President of Senior Class, President of Student Council, Mr. LCHS, Leader in Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Top 10 in class. Tyler Hood is a great basketball talent, but an even better person.

East TN AA: Jalen Steele (Fulton) Probably the best the East Tn player. Led Fulton to back to back state titles. Not exactly sure on his stats, but definitely up there with the premier players.

East Tn A: Brandon Herman (Grace Baptist) Probably the "Best player no one heard about"... I think because he plays in single A, however, there are very good players in single A.
