Meigs looking for new coach

Recommended Posts

Meigs has good talent, all they need is a good coach someone that can get the boys to play hard. they lost two games last year that they had won and bad coaching lost them the games. They look so bad last year because the coaching was bad, we just need to get behind the boys and hope they hire the right guy. I think it will be harder finding a good coach than it will be fixing porblems on the filed.

Well...... Lets see your list "Tiger Pride"? :popcorneater:

Sorry mr whistle I'm not in the list speculation business. Some of the names you listed, Baker, Martin, Hampton, no way they will ever be back. As for the new names, only the man doing the hiring knows for sure. Howard wanted to come to Meigs early in his career but was rejected. I think that decision will bite Meigs for a long time.

Well, you can forget about Howard coming. If he was going to come, it would have been for the head baseball job. He has it made at Mcminn, He is not going anywhere. I am sure Mr. Baker will make the right choice. I hope the best for Meigs Co. , I have always had alot of respect for Meigs Co and Coach Baker

Was the coach bad when he coach the team to the state title game 15 years ago? When I saw Meigs I saw very little effort from them, I don't think they crossed their own 40 yard line against the opponent's starting defense, but the coaches can't be out there on the field blocking and tackling.

I don't know what you saw 15 yrs ago, but he is not the same coach now. If you'd watched him a little closer you'd have seen him mowing the grass during practice, he didn't go in the locker room at halftime, and was very quiet on the sidelines during a game. How many head coaches act like that?

I can top the guy with all the names. You heard it hear first. On friday I saw Fulmer get off I75 S in Sweetwater and turn right. He had to be headed to Meigs to apply for the job! Several unrealistic names. If Coach Martin wanted less money he would've taken Sweetwater job. Multible interviews. Pay the Coaches Monroe Co.! All joking aside I hope things workout for the Tigers!

15 years ago, Meigs had the best coaching staff in its history. Martin, Baker, Webb and a younger Eller. I may be wrong but I think Robert Greene coached the middle school team. Not a bad staff!! Also remember that group of kids was the most athletically gifted group that ever played at Meigs. Eller had niether the support staff nor the players he had 15 years ago.

This is what mean by bad coaching, They had a kid a year maybe two years out of highschool coaching DB's who wasn't that good himself. 15yrs ago Eller was the DB"s coach but i guess he had his hands full with other stuff. They had one of the slowest kids on the team probably in the distric playing safety and should have been a LB at best. Had the best DB they had at safety and should have been the lockdown corner, he didn't have great speed but we could have gave him help over the top with a faster safety. offensively we cant move the ball cause we can only run one play, we have to find ways to get the ball to other people because other teams new who the ball was going to everytime. Play calling was terrible and we still blame the players, it's not there fault the other teams were better prepared than they were.

I just think they need to bring a coach in that the kids will play hard for and knows the X's and O's of the game. Putting forth good effort also comes from good coaching, Eller was dull and thats how the kids played dull. Half of the guys playing were sophomers who didn't play any freshman games and the coach expected them to play at a high level. Those boys are greener than the grass in my back yard. Sports can teach a kid life long lessons and if the coachs put forth good effort so will the players and the players that dont needs to be on the sideline. Eller had a winning team in the 90's cause he had a group of guys who new how to win and he didn't have to put a lot of effort in to his coaching skills. This group needed alot more coaching and he didn't have the skills to get the job done these boys won't to win they just need to be coached and motivated.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
