Just a question for everybody. What is the punishment for coaches that recruit other players to come to there school and play? Is this a common practice? Just wanting to know what you think.

Other than gaining an additional parent or two, I'm not aware of any punishment administered.

We were offered $40K by a local private 'Christian' school for our daughter to attend a few years back...but, we turned 'em down because they were gonna make us pay for our game popcorn. :D

She should have practiced harder. We get our popcorn and Cokes free, so it was a deal.

Ask Jackson County they should be able to tell you. hehehe

OK you ask and I will tell you don't know NEVER recruited had some player to move in and others to move out. Our voting list for general election in our county is about 6000 and aprox 1500 of them have moved here in past 10-15 years and some of their childern play sports. Now we don't discrimanate so we let them play.WE've had aprox. 25 students in past 10 -15 years in this situation and about 4-6 that has been really good, and most competes like all our kids. Now with BB, Baseball, volleyball and football that covers around 1000 kids in 10 years. And the people that do the most whinning about our success most of the time have more transfer than us but because of our success they point out the girls BB team but we have many more moveins in baseball and football because there more participants. Its against the rules to recruit and as many whinners as they are the TSSAA has been told over and over and have dug deep to find a violation and they found a few. Not at JC cause we abide by the rules that every school has to abide by. I challenge anyone to prove any recruiting on Jackson county and if you can't you should quit whinning and help your program get better and if you can report it and TSSAA will punish us accordingly. We have had about as many move out as move in but thats life and some of the whinners are schools they transfered to but it was done legal so its old news.

How about over-eager AAU parents..do you think a high school coach should discourage such parents from recruiting or should the coach should allow a hot stove league.
Now that is a good, real time, obviously perceptive question. There is no way to keep it from happening. The moving rule takes care of it most of the time. Coaches need to keep up with their players during off season. If you aren't going to do it, expect to lose some. After all you should be working out a schedule that would be best for them during off season.

Privates recruit every student they have - no one is "zoned" to go to a private school. Privates have school fairs all over the place to recruit students. Publics transfer via the transfer rules according to TSSAA. All the above can be gray/blurry at best. Proving that a coach "actually" recruited a player is hard to do. Most folks know who/where the good coaches/programs are. It is the school's responsibility to follow the rules set by TSSAA in regards to athletics. And TSSAA enforces the rules.
