because to be honest they have a large pool of african american athletes to choose from... that may not be politically correct, but its just the truth... alcoa is a small school and town, but a lot of them are black, and lets just be honest black athletes are usually better athletes than white kids... not politically correct, but it is true... and btw, i am white myself lol, just stating a fact... some people may not agree... dont get me wrong, rankin is a heckuva coach, but he has the resources at alcoa, as he had at riverdale too... i think rankin is best at strength and conditioning and discipline with players... quarles is good with discipline too, but to me is a better x's and o's coach... this is just my opinion though, we all have them.

Is this Jimmy "The Greek" reincarnated? :o

I do not think he will be the BEST COACH we have ever faced we faced rankin every year for some time. So think before you post.

Rankin has had talent that any high school coach in the state could have won with for the last three years. I am not trying to take anything away from Rankin, he obviously is a good coach, but he is not in the same class as George Quarles, IMO. Alcoa had Maryville so out-talented this year and Quarles was one play away from beating him. My friend, you are the one that better think again if you are trying to say that Rankin is a better coach than Quarles.

How good is Maryville's QB? If he is a good solid QB then this game really worries me a lot. I think to beat SHS you have to be able to throw the football. They do have an outstanding D that is almost impossible to run on but, sometimes there pass defense lets teams stay in the game or even come back on them. I mean the guys that have had sucess throwing the ball on them aren't exactly D-1 QBs. They may be servicable but not outstanding. If someone could let me know that would be great. I'm terribly curious.

He is real good. You would be hard pressed to find one that has not been real good under Quarles. If you don't want this to be a track meet, you better get pressure on him and when they get there they better be good tacklers. I have seen clips of your team on Sunday and Monday and have thought all week that Quarles will throw the ball probably more in this game than any other they have played so far. You guys look tough up front on D, but with Quarles you have to play the run as well as the pass and you have to be able to cover the entire field and you better look for a trick play somewhere along the way because unless they are blowing you out, you will definitely see at least one.

Good videos. But i don't thing they do real justice to the actual speed of the team. You have to see it in real time. Are you going to the game this weekend? If so lets meet up.

That i am. Im most likely getting a ride for 81 as my car is dead. We definitely have to.

To the videos yea thats true but they sure do show you need 3 guys to tackle Bryson!

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
