Your right from one parent to another we are all entiled to our opinion.I find it hard to believe that Welch was the only player on the team that cared. Because this years team seems to have a lot of heart and plays real well together.My refernce to John Jenkins was that it takes a team to win ball games. Jenkins was a great player but needed his team to get him to the state championship, he couldn't do it alone.

 

I agree. They have played a lot better from what I've read and heard. Comparing John Jenkins to Welch is a little ridiculous. Jenkins was a 5 star recruit.........But to say that he would not make a difference, etc. devalues your point. USN is not very good right now despite their record. If they add him, they are going to the top of D-II - A immediately. DCA might win the region......they could have won the state if Welch would have stayed and were coached correctly. Who cares about winning the region? Do you get a gold ball for it?

 

And the 4 guys around Jenkins were garbage his entire career. When you average 44/game in high school.....the rest of your team has to suck. Otherwise, you aren't shooting that much every time.

First off I'd like to say that DCA is doing well but it's not because Welch left. They are having a great year granted that the Region is weak this year. I saw many of Welch's games and loves how he plays the hardest when he is out there and actually cares. Think about it, Knox Webb lost their two best players (one a division one basketball player) and USN lost another division one Basketball player in Lyles. Last year Welch as only a sophmore led that team and won many clutch games when you could tell that others did not care to even be out there. DCA is drinking the koolaid thinking that they have come out better when truly, Welch hasn't even suited up for USN and when he does they will be a tough duo to compete with and the region is down this year. Seriously, if MJCA is in any discussion about winning games (well, riverside x2, curry ingram, pleasant view x2, Middle Tennessee Heat, which are equivalent to junior high teams) you know it's a bad year. I dont doubt for one second that the DCA coaches are talking about this because they are having a good year but if they had Welch they would be even better. He carried them through FRA, Knox Webb, USN, etc. he showed the most leadership on the team and he was only a sophmore. bballfan9009, you need to evaluate what you said and maybe go find yourself something better to do than bash high school kids on a website. You can drink the koolaid with all the DCA coaches but Welch is much better off at USN and will show that next year.

 

I think this post makes a lot of sense. I'd say there was a lot of friction between both parties, and it might have been best for both parties to move on. On one hand, you have a legendary coach maybe a little old school in his ways that has won a state title. On the other, a solid high school player that didn't necessarily buy in to his system and philosophy. DCA coaches are probably excited at this point in the season, because they didn't really know what they had......I don't blame them....I'd be jacked. I think both parties are better off......and this move might have worked out for everyone. If there was as much bad blood between the schools, they would have never agreed to CO-OP in football.

I do agree he will add to the team for sure. He is a good player no doubt. But I still feel the other schools are more solid as a TEAM. USN only has 1 player really that is scorring. The other 3 teams have solid 5-6 players that can lead at any game.With Welch they will better but not at the top immediately. Yes DCA would be stronger with him,, but seeing last years team and this years team I still feel the team plays more as a TEAM this year without him. Their was alot of friction last year with the team and Welch I feel.Jenkins to Welch was only to state it takes more than 1 player.No gold ball for winning the region .but you take it one step at a time to get there and that comes first.

Read some of the posts and decided to place a call to a teacher over at DCA to get some scoop on all of this. Seems as though Welch wasn't the only player that left the DCA basketball team. CJ left school and went to Friendship where he was then kicked out, Javon Jones quit the team only to be begged back (was also mentioned that it would be in his best interest to play, I guess he was having some problems getting game film for football and he thought this might help???), D Ewin left the school only to have the school call his old jr. high coach and beg him to come back. So it sounds like DCA should evaluate why all of these kids do not want to play for their school team. Also, was brought up that the only parent/player that had any problem with Welch was Kyle Kennedy and his father. Kennedy hasn't played the last two years because of this. So saying that parents and players have a problem with him might not be the most true statement unless you are in the kennedy family. The coaches were upset with his decision to leave (welch) but it was told to me that the only coach who would say stuff that has been said on this board would be Ramsey (who is the bball coach and what looks like the problem of these kids quitting, and a coach named Dorris who from what I gather is the girls softball coach???) And finally, it was said to me that there was no way parents and coaches would be talking with Kennedys father because there was no love lost between anyone at DCA and him. I guess he has stirred up alot of trouble by complaining about playing time and lack of interest towards his son. Supposedly he was escorted out of a football game this year for yelling at the coaching staff???? This guy sounds like a winner!!

I also did not say the players and coaches had a problem with Welch, I said that after speaking with parents and coaches that DCA is a much better team without him this year. They play as team and I saw selfish play last season, we do not have that this year.So again BIGENS get your facts straight before quoting people.

You just now said that coaches didn't have a problem with Welch but you said that they did earlier? I'm confused. Also I have been around DCA for years to watch games and last year I watched many of Welch. I watch being just a long time fan of the school. They were much younger and the league was tougher. DCA can bask in their success for right now and say that they are playing better but losing someone who not only led his team but also was second leading assist man. I'm happy with what DCA is doing they are playing well right now and it's fun to watch. Ripping Welch is the wrong thing to do on here, I don't see shooting %50 from two and %40 from three and only averaging around 17-18 is selfish. You are also wrong about kids quitting. I sat in the bleachers and watched it all unwind throughout the season. Whether it was Jones being "kicked off" the team at Davidson, Ewin leaving, and the tension between Kennedy and the coach, Welch never let it phase him. Selfish is the wrong word to describe this player. Please, watch some games and learn about basketball rather than just look at records and also make sure what you are saying matches up with what you said earlier because that weakens your entire case.

Can't beat you?? DCA has and always will be a team scared to play ENSWORTH. you are to busy scheduling powder puff teams to play any of the big boys in DII. Mr. Kennedy, you were in fact thrown out of the DCA v FRA football game so saying there is no bad blood between you and the coaches is false and sad. You are also mistaken bballfan9009. I am a DCA supporter and even have younger grandkids in the school. I liked Welch as a basketball player. I think that this should only be about predictions and scouting rather than attacking some kid online. It is very childish of people to get on here and talk NEGATIVELY about a TEENager when most are grown men. I love seeing DCA playing well but it's not all on the fact that Welch is gone.
