McCallie five-time state wrestling champion T.J. Duncan is featured in the "Faces in the Crowd" section of this week's issue of Sports Illustrated.

Duncan is the first wrestler in Tennessee history to win five state championships and the ninth, five-time prep wrestling champion in the nation.

The Rossville, Ga. resident who turned 18 on March 1, won championships in five different weight classes; 119 (2007), 135 (2008), 140 (2009), 152 (2010) and 160 (2011).

Duncan also holds the McCallie school record for career wins (205-20) and will attend the University of Maryland in the fall on a wrestling scholarship.

In reality then Tennessee does not have a five time champion. Georgia has it's first five time state champion. He could not have wrestled Varsity in 8th grade, thus must have been recruited into TN and was allowed to compete on varsity level as 8th grader.

Outstanding accomplishment to win 5 titles.

Too bad it is a GA boy and not a tennesess homegrown....

So TN is actually still seeking their firs 5 timer.

Congratulations to T.J. Duncan, his family, his school, and his teammates on such an amazing accomplishment! No matter what state he is from, he has represented and will continue to represent Tennessee well! Good luck with the Terrapins T.J. and hope to see you at The Citadel tournament next year.

Yeah, kid comes across state lines only because he can be recruited by a private school so not only can he wrestle out of his district but out of his own state as well.

TN sure has some crazy rule differences for D1 and D2.

And I know for sure had he wrestled D1 he would have been far from state champ 5 years in a row. Maybe 2.

He is a great wrestler but some of these 5 and 6 timers might need an * by they're accomplishments because there just arent too many true state champions anymore. I mean come on, theres only like 16 schools in the division.... put that in Sports Illustrated.

    • Congratulations to the Warrior baseball team winning the Region Championship.  Last night the football team beat Franklin Co 33-0 in their spring scrimmage. Warriors looked very good. Missing a few players who were playing baseball but still absolutely dominated. A lot of young ones got in halfway through the 3rd when the score reached 33-0. QB Tilton Pickett looked very sharp.  Sam Pickett is on another level this season. Seems to have put on 15 to 20 lbs in the off season and added a step as well. Transfer from last year Williamson caught numerous balls and is very elusive. Lots of athletes on this team. Defense was smothering and will only get better. The head coach from Sewanee was in attendance and offered 2 kids after the game. Could be a special year.
