Pitino
Ms. WarEagle, Yeah I saw where your team got beaten. By of all teams, Arkansas. I also saw where Tennessee lost. That should move them up one place in the polls. Looks like they found them a quarterback, though. You have to give it to the vols though. They have an offense, not much of a defense. Lil shooter running cross country???? She needs to have a basketball in her hands while running. See ya at Shelbyville.
Guest Bigeasy1
I heard at breakfast this morning that coaches from UCLA / TEXAS TECH TO EAST CAROLINA along with about twenty other schools from all over the country are coming to shelbyville to watch the november play day. If I coached in hs I would take my team so they could play in front of all those coaches. Some of those kids dont play AAU or those other events should want to come so they can get some exposure. At no other time during the year maybe except the state tournament do kids get the chance to play in front of that many coaches. Somebody said that Pat Summit might come when is the last time you saw her at the State Tournament?? Just a thought!! salty
It is very likely that Vygor Charlzegryznsky, the Ukranian National coach will be in Shelbyville for the playday. My contacts say they are looking for prospective Olympians to play in the 2004 Athens Games. Ukraine has been hit heavily by a potato famine recently, and it has had a negative effect on their female youth basketball programs. Coaches should warn their players of the dangers, including loss of TSSAA eligibility, in the event of defection and change of citizenship. Pitino
What is the seating capacity at Shelbyville High School? Should I come early? Sounds like the coaches will fill up 1/2 of the gym. Can't wait
nick32
Why would colleges come to watch a playday? Not disputing your word on this, just wondering why? Are there that many quality players on these teams? How many games will be played by each team? Where will the games be? Do these games go on just Saturday or is it Friday, Saturday and Sunday? By the way, this is a good college football day
Metroman
I can see why people would question a college coming to a playday. The kids are still rusty and coaches aren't concerned about winning. Let me give you a couple of reasons. First, there is more talent at the Shelbyville playday than at the state tournament. In fact, the only thing that might compare to it is the AAU state tournament. College coaches haven't started their seasons, so it is easy for them to get away to look at some prospects. They don't want to spend one day watching one player. They want to spend 1 day watching 20 players. Second, most college recruiters can evaluate talent very quickly. Let them watch a kid warmup, and then watch how they play for a half a quarter, and their done. They are looking for a kids attitude, skill level, and potential. If they find someone interesting, they'll dig deeper. The Shelbyville playday gives them a chance to find some new prospects. That's why it doesn't matter if the teams are at their peak. I remember sitting with an assistant coach at the playday and she said about a player, "no left hand, too small, too undisciplined on defense", and then moved onto the next player. And do you know whats amazing, the coach was dead on. The highly touted girl hasn't been nearly the player in college while others who were less touted have done much better. So - by this statement- would you agree that girls that are "pushed" and in the "limelight" so to speak are not always the most talented players on the team? JACKFLASH
Just heard that there has been three more teams added to the Shelbyville playday, Tullahoma, Fraklin County, and Cannon County. That puts a little more than 30 teams coming to Shelbyville to play on that weekend. Also three more colleges have also called and said that they were coming, Florida, Michigan, and Virginia. Metroman
What I meant was what makes a good college player isn't what makes a good high school player. Sometimes, people are hyped a little to much. Other times, a girl peaks her sophomore year.
