Baylor at McCallie

I've not said anything on here in over a year, but felt this was a good place to put in my only two cents this season. The irony of this match this year is that both teams are really down. They are definitely not at their best. Yet, this will probably be one of the closest matches between the two in a while. Lots of possibilities. Lots of unknown. Lots of good times.

This would not be a year to miss- no one knows what's going to happen.

It amazes me that with a huge enrollment at mccallie that they don't have a 195

You do realize that McCallie and SBA do not have that different of an enrollment if you go off of the classification numbers used by the TSSAA. Of course these may not be perfect but let's take a look at it. These were the enrollment numbers used in the last set of classification adjustments (only thing I could find).

McCallie - 1304

SBA - 983

McCallie is an all boy's school so their enrollment was double for classification purposes, meaning we should halve it for this analysis. SBA would have approximately half of their student body available for wrestling since it is a co-ed institution (not sure what SBA's current male / female ratio is, although I would expect that the school may be heavier in females so this may be a little off). That changes the numbers to the following:

McCallie - 652

SBA - 491

Given that McCallie has been filling 13 (missing 195) varsity weight classes and SBA has been filling 12 (missing 220 & 285) we could look at the number of students per varsity wrestler. That would give us that McCallie has about 50 students per varsity wrestler and SBA about 41. Not that large a gap if you ask me.

Long story short... not sure stones should be cast at McCallie if you aren't filling a complete line-up yourself.

A lot would have to depend on who Baylor has in their lineup. With some of their horses all out of the lineup (as it appeared in the prep slam), no chance for a Baylor win. BUT if one or two of those guys are in the lineup that makes it a completely different match. Does anyone know if the match will be webcasted? I remember a few years back McCallie did indeed do a webcast and many of us out of Nashville got to enjoy a taste of the rivalry as well. Also, I'm very interested to see the rematch of last weekend at 132 where Tim Westbrooks ousted state champion, Brandon Brunner.

Depending on the score I wouldn't be surprised if westbrook doesn't wrestle brunner so he can keep his #1 seed at state ... Just my thought

Why would Westbrooks dodge anyone? He has already defeated all ranked contenders at 132.... He is the class of the 132's at D2...,

    • Congratulations to the Warrior baseball team winning the Region Championship.  Last night the football team beat Franklin Co 33-0 in their spring scrimmage. Warriors looked very good. Missing a few players who were playing baseball but still absolutely dominated. A lot of young ones got in halfway through the 3rd when the score reached 33-0. QB Tilton Pickett looked very sharp.  Sam Pickett is on another level this season. Seems to have put on 15 to 20 lbs in the off season and added a step as well. Transfer from last year Williamson caught numerous balls and is very elusive. Lots of athletes on this team. Defense was smothering and will only get better. The head coach from Sewanee was in attendance and offered 2 kids after the game. Could be a special year.
