This is a link that shows Gville's records back to 1980.

In 82, Gville went 11-1, losing to Marion in the playoffs.

In 83, Gville went 11-3, runner-up to ECS

In 84, State Champs

In 85, 5-4

In 86 11-1, losing to SP in the second or third round

in 87, 10-3, losing to Greenback in the semi's

In 88, 11-3, losing to DCA in the semi's.

Considering there was on 3 classes, and only the top 2 in the district made the playoffs. This was a heck of a run.

I know OldTiger55 was a part of these teams, not sure about TigerTradition, though.

Croz prior to the 1985 season only one team went to the playoffs. I can remember playing Westy in 84 and Coach Medley coming in the locker room and telling us the Industrial bowl was inviting us in case Westy beat us. To this day I can remember those Srs. telling him to thank them but Westy would be coming.

i played in the 70s had some toug teams back then as far as toughness goes todays footbal is alot different and by the way 79my last year was the first time gord and sp played in regular season we were thefirst team to ever go 10 -0

In 1980 SP ruined Gordy's undefeated regular season and #2 ranking in the state on a 36-0 win at our home coming on Halloween night.

All I can say is you fellers from South Pitt better fear the BIG MAC ATTACK next year especially since that Grider man may be movin on to greener pastures.

have you see our young teams play against your young teams. Them young teams didn't need Grider to beat your young teams. Keep dreaming. I have heard this for many years now. Hasn't changed and I see nothing that's gonna change it. We got the talent no matter if u got Mac or not.

The way the playoffs are watered down now, has changed things a little.

I played in the late 90's and we never made it out of the first round.

We got put out by FRA, BGA, CPA, and DCA. 3 of those are in D2 and CPA is in 3A.

Only one of those games was a blowout. DCA beat us by 22-20, CPA was a one score game as was FRA, I believe. BGA beat us with Troy Fleming 42-0, and it was only 7-0 at half.

If things were set up then like they are now. We would've been a 2nd or 3rd round team every year.

That's why I think it's more significant what Gville was able to do in the 80's.

Old Pirate totally agrees, SP was eliminated by those + TC many times in the 90s. Way tougher back then with all the privates & Boyd was also good.

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
